Education/Certification
Special Knowledge/Skills
- Ability to follow verbal and written instructions and written reference material such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals
- Ability to communicate effectively (verbally)
- Ability to operate hand and power tools
- Ability to work independently
- Ability to perform mathematical calculations and the ability to diagnose and resolve problems
- Ability to pass U.S. Department of Transportation alcohol and drug tests.
- Ability to operate maintenance vehicles to transport furniture and equipment throughout district.
- Knowledge of basic construction and routine maintenance and repair procedures
Experience:
One year experience in general building maintenance in a commercial setting.
MAINTENANCE AND REPAIR
Major Responsibilities and Duties:
1. Assist skilled workers with repair and maintenance of district facilities, including
repairing woodwork; replacing electrical switches, fixtures and motors; repairing
and replacing plumbing fixtures and drainage systems; and replacing broken glass.
2 Receive and complete work orders. Identify and complete needed repairs on
buildings, grounds, and equipment using established inspection procedures.
3. Assist with mowing and detailing of district grounds.
4. Move, install, assemble, and repair all school furniture and playground equipment as
needed.
5. Hang pictures, mirrors, blackboards, bulletin boards, projection screens, towel
dispensers, soap dispensers, and other items as required.
6. Install door and window assemblies and hardware, including window glass and
screens.
7. Install ceiling and flooring materials.
8. Prepare surfaces for painting, including sanding and removing old paint, filling holes,
cracks, and joints with appropriate filler. Tape, float and texture walls and ceilings.
9. Paint surfaces, using brushes, spray gun, paint rollers, or other methods to include
stain, seal, and varnish wood surfaces.
10. Erect scaffolding, set up ladders, or use lifts to perform tasks above ground level.
11. Inspect jobs after completion and ensure areas are clean.
12. Respond to after hours emergencies as needed.
Safety
13. Operate equipment and use tools following established safety procedures
14. Follow established safety procedures and techniques to perform job duties,
including lifting, climbing, etc.
15. Perform preventive maintenance on tools and equipment and ensure equipment is in
safe operating condition.
