The Medication Aide - Certified (MA-C) will be responsible for administering medications, assisting with medication management, and ensuring the safe and effective distribution of prescribed medications to individuals in a residential inpatient or outpatient substance use disorder (SUD) treatment setting. This role requires adherence to state and federal regulations, facility protocols, and best practices in the care of individuals with substance use disorders. The MA-C will work under the supervision of licensed healthcare providers, including doctors and nurses, to support the treatment process.
Key Responsibilities:
- Administer medications to clients according to prescribed orders, ensuring accurate dosage and timing.
- Monitor and document medication intake, including any potential side effects, adverse reactions, or concerns reported by clients.
- Ensure proper storage and handling of medications, including controlled substances, in compliance with facility policies and regulations.
- Perform client assessments related to medication needs, including providing feedback to clinical staff on medication adherence or issues that may arise.
- Support clients in understanding the purpose, side effects, and proper usage of their medications.
- Communicate with clients about their progress, changes in medications, and any concerns related to their treatment.
- Provide documentation of medication administration, including ensuring that medication logs are accurate and up to date.
- Assist clinical and medical teams in identifying treatment goals, medication adjustments, and overall care plans.
- Ensure compliance with regulatory standards (state/federal regulations, policies, etc.) related to medication administration in a SUD treatment setting.
- Assist with maintaining inventory control of medications and supplies.
- Adhere to confidentiality standards and HIPAA regulations when managing patient information.
- Collaborate with other staff members (therapists, counselors, doctors, etc.) to ensure the comprehensive care of clients in treatment.
- Report any concerns or issues to the nursing or medical team promptly.
Qualifications:
- High School Diploma or equivalent required.
- Certified Medication Aide (CMA) certification from an accredited program and/or state licensing body.
- Previous experience in a healthcare setting, especially in a substance use disorder (SUD) treatment environment, is highly preferred.
- Knowledge of medication administration processes, including proper handling and storage of medications.
- Familiarity with substance use disorder treatment modalities and an understanding of client needs in an inpatient/outpatient setting.
- Ability to maintain a calm and compassionate demeanor while interacting with individuals in treatment.
- Strong attention to detail and organizational skills.
- Excellent communication skills and ability to work as part of a multidisciplinary team.
- Ability to maintain confidentiality and follow all regulations regarding patient privacy.
Physical Requirements:
- Ability to lift up to 25 lbs.
- Ability to stand and walk for extended periods.
- Manual dexterity to handle medication administration and documentation processes.
- Potential exposure to environmental stressors due to client behaviors or situations.

The work environment is at any approved site of Minerva Park Behavioral Health.
