Sr Construction Director

Established in 2020, Mini Mall Storage Properties has been successfully acquiring storage facilities throughout North America with rapid expansion in the United States. We have a team of talented and diverse self-storage experts who span across 15 states and 7 provinces to support and manage our rapid growth across North America. With over 50,000 units and almost 8 million square feet of self-storage space, our goal is to make storage simple and accessible throughout life’s transitions.

The Sr Construction Director will play a critical role in the successful execution of Mini Mall’s capital expenditure initiatives. This role will be responsible for overseeing all aspects of construction project management, from scope development and budgeting to vendor management and on-site representation.  

WHAT WILL YOU DO? 

• Collaborate with senior leaders to understand the objectives of the business, ensuring that capital expenditure projects align with these objectives and associated timelines, contributing to the strategic growth of the company 
• Work closely with operations leaders to align capital improvement projects with facility needs budgets to deliver efficient solutions that enhance our storage properties and contribute to a positive customer experience 
• Oversee the planning, execution and completion of all construction projects, ensuring they are on time and within budget, by developing and managing budgets through tracking expenses and ensuring cost control measures are in place 
• Select and manage vendors, subcontractors, and general contractors; fostering strong working relationships and ensuring compliance with project requirements, as well as safety and environmental standards 
• Analyzing project performance data and preparing project financial reports, to ensure projects meet financial goals and identify areas for cost savings and revenue generation  
• Work closely with the investments and acquisitions departments to support the due diligence process of acquiring new storage facilities  
• Lead and mentor a team of project engineers and project managers providing guidance and support to promote a collaborative and high performing working environment  
• Stay updated on construction technology trends and best practices, and provide recommendations to implement relevant tools and software for project management  
• Prepare and present regular reports on project progress, financials and key performance indicators to senior management  

WHAT WILL YOU NEED? 

• 8-10 years of construction project management experience with a focus on commercial renovations and capital expenditure projects; experience in self storage would be considered an asset
• Bachelors degree or Diploma in construction management, civil engineering, or a related field  
• Strong background in general contracting, or experience as an owners representative; experience in both the US and Canada would be considered an asset   
• Proven experience in budgeting, cost control and financial management of construction projects  
• Exceptional leadership and team management skills with the ability to inspire and motivate project engineers and managers  
• Effective communication and interpersonal skills to effectively collaborate with cross functional teams, vendors and contractors 
• Ability to handle multiple projects simultaneously and prioritize tasks effectively  
• Proactive problem solving skills and a track record of delivering projects on time and within budget 
• Must be able to travel to the United States
