Job Title: Christian Mental Health Counseling Billing and Credentialing Specialist

Job Overview:

The Christian Mental Health Counseling Billing and Credentialing Specialist is responsible for managing billing operations and ensuring that counselors are properly credentialed with insurance companies and relevant authorities. This role supports the mental health team by maintaining accurate records, facilitating insurance reimbursements, and ensuring compliance with industry standards. The specialist will also work in alignment with the Christian values and mission of the counseling practice.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Billing and Insurance Management:
  • Process and submit claims for counseling services provided, ensuring accuracy and timely submission.
  • Follow up on unpaid or rejected claims with insurance providers.
  • Verify insurance coverage and benefits for clients, ensuring proper coding and documentation.
  • Manage client accounts, ensuring that billing statements are accurate and payments are processed correctly.
  • Provide assistance to clients with insurance-related inquiries, such as billing discrepancies and claim denials.
  • Maintain confidentiality and comply with HIPAA regulations for all billing and client information.
  • Credentialing:
  • Assist mental health counselors in obtaining and maintaining credentialing with insurance companies and relevant authorities.
  • Ensure compliance with the latest credentialing requirements and regulations.
  • Complete and submit credentialing applications, ensuring timely approval and renewals.
  • Track and monitor the status of credentialing applications and communicate any issues with management.
  • Maintain up-to-date records of all credentialing documents for counselors and therapists.
  • Client Support:
  • Serve as a point of contact for clients regarding insurance claims, coverage, and billing questions.
  • Provide guidance to clients on payment options, insurance benefits, and financial assistance as needed.
  • Coordinate with clients and therapists to ensure that services are appropriately billed.
  • Compliance and Documentation:
  • Ensure that all billing practices are in compliance with federal and state regulations, as well as the ethical guidelines of the Christian counseling practice.
  • Keep accurate, organized records of all billing, credentialing, and insurance-related documents.
  • Stay updated on changes in healthcare regulations, insurance procedures, and billing codes (e.g., ICD-10, CPT codes).
  • Team Collaboration:
  • Work closely with counselors, administrative staff, and leadership to streamline the billing and credentialing process.
  • Assist in training new staff on billing practices, insurance verification, and credentialing requirements.
  • Collaborate with the practice's leadership to assess and improve billing and credentialing procedures, ensuring efficiency and transparency.
  • Faith-Based Alignment:
  • Incorporate the Christian values and mission of the counseling practice into all aspects of work.
  • Promote a caring, compassionate, and ethical approach to client interactions and billing inquiries.
  • Maintain a Christ-centered approach when dealing with sensitive client issues, ensuring that clients feel respected and supported.

Skills and Qualifications:

  • Education: High school diploma or equivalent required; Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in health administration, business, or a related field preferred.
  • Experience: Previous experience in medical billing, credentialing, or healthcare administration, especially in mental health or counseling settings, is highly desirable.
  • Knowledge of:
  • Insurance verification and billing processes (particularly for mental health services).
  • Mental health diagnosis coding (ICD-10) and CPT codes.
  • Familiarity with electronic health record (EHR) systems and billing software.
  • Credentialing processes for mental health providers and insurance companies.
  • Skills:
  • Strong organizational and time-management skills.
  • Attention to detail and ability to handle sensitive data confidentially.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to interact with clients, insurance companies, and healthcare providers.
  • Ability to problem-solve and handle billing disputes or insurance issues effectively.

Working Conditions:
