Who We Are
Ministry with Community is a non-profit organization located in Kalamazoo, Michigan. We are a daytime shelter and resource center, open 365 days a year, from 6:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. The mission of Ministry with Community is to empower people to make positive life changes. To achieve our mission, we provide our members (individuals we serve) with an environment of dignity, hope, trust, and unconditional acceptance where all people are respected and valued. Position Objective
The Executive Director leads the organization in its work to clarify and deepen member engagement, strengthen programs and community partnerships, increase public awareness of Ministry with Community, build sustainable financial support, and strengthen organizational effectiveness. The role requires the ability to lead in a dynamic environment of unconditional acceptance and foster an anti-racist culture.
The Executive Director’s primary functions are to implement the strategic goals and objectives of the organization, to enable the Board to fulfill its governance function, and to give direction and leadership toward the achievement of the organization’s philosophy and mission.
The Executive Director must demonstrate leadership, compassion, integrity, and trust. This individual must uphold the highest standards of ethics and values in alignment with the mission of Ministry with Community.
Position Responsibilities
The Executive Director has supervising responsibilities for the operations of Ministry with Community both in-person and virtually, including the following:
· Constantly evaluate and supervise the quality and delivery of member services to ensure they meet community and member needs through collaborative decision-making and continuous improvement
· Effectively supervise, support, and develop employees and teams, as well as manage conflicts and address performance issues
· Work to ensure a positive, anti-racist work culture
· Foster awareness of Ministry with Community's identity and contributions that promote a positive image within the community
· Supervise fundraising planning and implementation, including resource requirements and budget considerations
· Maintain and expand giving and fundraising programs, while managing a financial model that supports organizational growth and stability
· Serve as liaison and support committee engagement between the Board and staff to ensure effective communication and collaboration
· Provide timely and accurate information to support Board decision-making and governance
Position Requirements
· 5 years of managerial experience in social services, non-profit administration, public administration, or a related field
· Ability to work in a fast-paced work environment with compassion
· Excellent leadership and communication skills, including advocacy and conflict resolution
· Build and maintain positive working relationships and actively cultivate an inclusive, diverse, and anti-racist working environment
· Recognize and champion the importance of serving as a visible and active voice in the community to advocate for individuals who are unhoused
· Strong project management, including fundraising, program services, and financial management
· Understand and embrace the culture and the community we serve, with the ability to exhibit empathy, compassion, active listening, and advocacy
· Proficiency in common computer software, including Microsoft Word, Outlook, Excel, PowerPoint, and SharePoint
· Ability to work on a computer for prolonged periods
· Ability to provide own transportation to community events, meetings and fundraisers or possess a valid driver’s license and pass an MVR check
Position Preferred Qualifications
· Bachelor's degree in social work, public health, non-profit management, or related field
· Master’s degree in social work, public health, non-profit management, or related field
· Proven track record of fundraising and community engagement
· Knowledge of grant writing and administration
· Familiarity with local government policies, regulations, resources, and social services related to individuals who are unhoused
· Experience working with programs such as, Quick Books Online, Bloomerang, and social services tracking databases
· Experience working with people who are unhoused and/or with behavioral health conditions
· Strong relationships within the community, organizations, and networks relevant to our mission
· Direct experience in creating and reviewing budgetary documents for the non-profit or related sector
· Experience with staff development
Compensation and Benefits
· The hired individual may expect a base salary ranging from $75,000 to $100,000
· Generous paid time off (PTO) policies are offered, with full-time staff receiving between 4 to 8 weeks of PTO annually
· Restorative paid time off is an additional benefit, allowing employees to apply for a 5-week restorative leave after every 5 years of continuous employment to support their well-being
· A 403(b) retirement plan is available upon hire, with Ministry with Community matching up to 3% after six months of employment
· Medical health insurance premiums for the employee are subsidized 80%
· Dental and vision insurance is provided at no cost to the employee
· Employee Assistance Programs, life insurance, short-term disability, and long-term disability are provided at no cost to employees
