What are the responsibilities and job description for the Golf Course Parkkeeper - Seasonal position at Minneapolis Park and Recreation Board?
This is a seasonal position with an expected start date mid-April through mid-October, depending on location and weather conditions. May be assigned a modified workweek and workday that includes weekends and holidays. Position hours are between 5:00 A.M and 7:00 A.M. with end times between 1:30 P.M. and 3:30 P.M.
Certified Seasonal positions are eligible for a number of benefits including:
- Potential for full season bonus of $0.80/hour for all hours worked if you work at least 690 hours in a season and receive a qualifying performance rating score, to be paid on the final paycheck of the season
- Paid for holidays that fall within the work season
- Safety shoe reimbursement
- 16 hours of compensatory time per season
- Sick and safe time under the MN Earned Sick and Safe Time ordinance

- Maintain the physical attributes of golf course grounds, including bunker repair, removal of tree debris and other similar duties using MPRB equipment.
- Plant flowers, cut grass, weed whip and or other similar duties using MPRB equipment, including but not limited to riding lawn mowers, backpack blowers, and weed whips.
- Maintain and repair golf course irrigation system.
- Maintain and repair golf course equipment.
- Regular attendance at work expected; workload based on seasonal needs and hours of operation that may include days, nights, holidays, and weekends.
- Support the delivery of program and events by providing maintenance support to recreation staff that meets the needs and demands of the programs and events.
- Ensure other park amenities are safe, clean, and operational, including, but not limited to benches, picnic tables, drinking fountains, grills, signage, sidewalks, paths, and parking lots.
- Promptly report vandalism and enter work orders as necessary.
- Assist MPRB in identifying and addressing the park and recreation needs of underserved and under-represented communities.
- Be at least 18 years old at time of hire.
- High School Diploma or equivalent.
- Valid Driver's license.

- Ability to stand, walk, climb, balance, twist, stoop, squat, kneel, crawl, crouch, reach, drive, maneuver, push, pull, finger, grasp, feel, talk, hear, see, walk backward, walk on rough and/or uneven terrain, climb ladders and stairs, and repetitive motion.
- Lift and move up to 50 pounds daily.
- Work outdoors in all weather conditions. Exposure to chemicals, pesticides, fuels, noise from equipment, blood-borne pathogens.
- Ability to operate pickup trucks, motor boats, riding mowers, power tools, hand tools.
- Basic care and maintenance of golf greens, turf, trees and shrubs.
- Basic care and general maintenance of golf course and golf course facilities and buildings.
- Ability to use and safely operate tools necessary for the performance of duties.
- Work independently.
- Work in a team environment and adapt to changing conditions and situations.
- Display basic professional conduct in the workplace, including respectful communication and civility towards others.
- Understand and follow work rules, policies, and procedures, both verbal and written.
- Outstanding customer service principles and practices and standards for a diverse customer base.

Selection Process:

What steps the selection process involves:
- We review your minimum qualifications.
- We rate your training and experience based on application materials and supplemental questions (100%).
- We calculate your civil service score based on the above components and place you on the eligible list if all testing components are passed (passing score is 70.00 or above). Eligible list will expire on September 30, 2025.
- We conduct an interview.
- References, including verification of employment and work performance, may be considered. Past performance and discipline may be considered.
- We conduct a background check. Upon receiving a conditional offer of employment, the applicant will be asked to sign an informed consent allowing the Minneapolis Park and Recreation Board to obtain their criminal history in connection with the positions sought. - Upon receiving a conditional offer of employment, applicant must also successfully pass a pre-employment physical examination with work simulation paid for by the MPRB.
