What are the responsibilities and job description for the Recreation Citywide Manager position at Minneapolis Park and Recreation Board?
- Provide strategic support and leadership of the department and its resources so the development and implementation of recreation programming, events, and activities best practices fully supports the current and future needs of Minneapolis Park and Recreation Board.
- In partnership with the Director of Youth and Recreation Center Programs, provide administrative support to research, analyze, and monitor programming and facility standards, protocols, and expectations across all recreation service areas.
- In consultation with Recreation Service Area Managers, develop and recommend policies to enhance and improve programming and facility standards, protocols, and expectations.
- Manage and monitor performance matrix system for department activities. Gather, interpret, and prepare data for studies and reports, and provide recommendations to ensure that Recreation Programs, events, opportunities, and facilities are compliant with the MPRB Comprehensive Plan 2021-2036.
- Analyze demographics to determine program expansion or contraction opportunities. Conduct program audits of each service area to ensure programming is diverse, reflects the organizational goals, mission, and priorities.
- Research and recommend fee scales, monitor collections and deposits, and run financial reports.
- Assist with assessing, monitoring, and recommending revenue-generating program/event opportunities. Assist with seeking, securing, and administering outside funding and grants for programming advances.
- Assist with preparing and administering program budgets Monitor ongoing programming budget activity and advise Director accordingly.
- Assist MPRB in identifying and addressing the park and recreation needs of underserved and under-represented communities.
- Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited college or university with a major in Parks and Recreation, Public Administration, Business or related field.
- Increasingly responsible experience in facility management: at least five (5) years.
- Increasingly responsible experience in leadership, management and administration: at least five (5) years.
- Experience in data analysis or related analytical experience in areas including data gathering and analysis, performance measures, strategic initiatives: at least three (3) years.
- Increasingly responsible experience in recreation program design and service delivery: at least three (3) years.
- Experience supervising employees: at least five (5) years.
- Valid Driver’s License and safe driving record.
- Experiences supervising employees at multiple locations: at least three (3) years.
- Experience supervising unionized employees: at least three (3) years.
- Knowledge of planning, organizing, coordinating and implementing comprehensive community park and recreation programs including but not limited to youth development; children; teen; adult and family programming; events; and therapeutic recreation.
- Knowledge of contemporary principles and best practices of meeting the expectations and needs of diverse customer base.
- Knowledge of school-age childcare state standards, and programs development and practices as they relate to Therapeutic Recreation.
- Ability to identify and evaluate plan alternatives in relation to trends, costs, and social pressures and needs.
- Ability to thoroughly evaluate program alternatives and make recommendations for improvements in MPRB programs, services, and relevant facilities.
- Ability to provide leadership and support toward the successful and effective performance of staff.
- Outstanding customer service principles and practices and standards for a diverse customer base.
