Summer Youth Outdoor Educational Assistant
Role Summary
Carl W. Kroening Nature Center located in the beautiful North Mississippi Regional Park is hiring multiple positions for Youth Outdoor Education Assistant for the 2025 summer season. Work in an urban park alongside the Mississippi River and minutes from downtown Minneapolis. Come spend a summer at Kroening Nature Center.
Required Skills & Abilities
What kind of work will I do?
- Work on a cohort team, participating in weekly hands-on projects to gain scientific and environmental knowledge and skills
- Assist summer camp naturalists by participating in activities with camp groups and providing encouragement and support to camp youth.
- Serve as a role model by demonstrating high standards of personal conduct.
- Assist naturalist staff with public program from community member of all ages.
- Attend cohort meetings and individual supervisor check-ins to meet project goals.
Minimum Qualifications

- A current high school junior, senior or recently graduated high school within the past year.
- Can commit to working the June 10th to August 23rd
- Can commit to working 20-25 hours/week
- Work an occasional weekend or evening shift
- Have a friendly and approachable work ethic
- Have access to reliable transportation
- Knowledgeable of the North Minneapolis neighborhood and it’s residents.
Background Checks
We conduct a background check. Upon receiving a conditional offer of employment, the applicant will be asked to sign an informed consent allowing the Minneapolis Park and Recreation Board to obtain their criminal history in connection with the positions sought. MPRB Background Check Policy . The MPRB will be in compliance with Minnesota’s Department of Human Services fingerprinting requirements. Minors under the age of 18 will also need a permission form signed by a legal guardian.
Compensation and Benefits
$15.97 per hour.
You are eligible to receive sick and safe time per the Minneapolis City Ordinance and Minnesota Earned Sick and Safe Time, and will earn one (1) hour of sick and safe leave for every thirty (30) hours worked. Public employees will be enrolled in statutorily required Public Employers Retirement Association (PERA) pension contributions if/when eligible. This position is not eligible for other benefits.

20-30 hours per week.
