Job Summary
The Department of Corrections is hiring an Adult Basic Education Teacher at the Shakopee Facility! This position exists to provide instruction in a well-managed and comprehensive instructional environment, which may include Adult Basic Education (ABE), General Educational Development diploma (GED), High School Diploma, English as a Second Language and English Language Learning (ESL / ELL), post-secondary preparation, and related life skills. In addition, this position involves supporting students' Personal Education Plans; developing curriculum and integrating methods of instruction to serve all types of learning styles in an individually-paced classroom; and, assessing, monitoring, and recording progress and directing resources to promote effective learning.
This position is located at a correctional facility and has direct contact with students who are incarcerated.

Physical Requirements

Additional Requirements
The selection process may include screening the top candidate(s) on their criminal history, predatory offender registration, offender associations and / or other applicable background information in accordance with Department of Corrections' policy. Top candidate(s) must pass a criminal history check which includes successful completion of all sentencing and / or restitution requirements of law enforcement jurisdictions, including probation.
Employment history / reference checks, including incidents of sexual harassment, will also be conducted on the top candidate(s) in accordance with Department of Corrections' policy. This may include a review of job performance and discipline records.
New employees will be fingerprinted within the first 30 days of employment.
