Purpose

The Domestic Abuse Project has 45 years of experience serving as a leader in innovative family program models that work towards reducing intergenerational trauma and violence in family systems. We are searching for a critical member of our leadership team to join DAP as the Director of Advancement and Communications. This role is responsible for creating and executing an effective development and communication plan in partnership with the Executive Director, with a focus on stewardship, and solicitation of major donors, individual donors, and funding partners. This role is an opportunity for an experienced development professional to make a significant impact through supporting DAP in developing strategic and sustainable development practices that create meaningful, multi-year commitments from donors and sponsors.

Responsibilities

Above all, this role is about assessing the ways in which DAP can more effectively engage, cultivate, and steward individual donors and funding partners and collaboratively lead to execute those strategies. Priorities will be set in partnership with the Executive Director with the goal to increase individual contributions, gift amounts, recurring gifts, awareness of DAP’s mission, and organized strategies to sustain a successful annual development plan.

Additional Responsibilities

  • Oversight of DAP’s fundraising events and Advancement Committee
  • Supervise grants and foundation funding initiatives
  • Tracking, reporting, and oversight of development metrics and donor tracking
  • Management of communication plan and calendar
  • Oversight of development team members and contractors
  • Management of processes for timely, impactful donor acknowledgements
  • Additional duties as determined by organizational and development priorities
  • Qualifications and Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree (4 year) and minimum of three years of professional development experience in individual major giving ($10K ).
  • Excellent interpersonal skills including active listening skills, responsiveness, ability to connect with donors through their stories and philanthropic goals, and professional demeanor for building relationships and working effectively with donors – including the ability to train others on our team in the development of these skills.
  • Experience with communications and social media.
  • Track record of meeting aggressive fundraising goals and executing processes.
  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills, including follow through.
  • Hands-on development database experience, specifically with timely and accurate tracking of donor records, pulling reports, and assessment tools.
  • Technology proficiency : donor database, office suites, communications tools.
  • Experience collecting and sharing compelling case statements and impact stories for causes, especially related to domestic violence.
  • Demonstrated commitment to integrating an anti-racist framework into all aspects of DAP’s fundraising practices.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of ethical, legal, and tax-related issues regarding the solicitation, transfer, and management of charitable gifts.
  • Work Conditions and Physical Requirements

  • Must have access to a professional home / remote work station and reliable Internet.
  • Ability to conduct and participate in multiple virtual meetings and phone calls daily.
  • Regular evening and weekend work for committee meetings and events.
  • Must have a reliable vehicle and a valid driver’s license, regular driving required.
  • 25% local travel (driving to donor and foundation visits).
  • Regular long periods of standing and sitting in office, meeting, and event settings.
  • Able to lift 25lbs and support event set-up needs.
  • A minimum of 2 days of work each week is done in a shared office space.
  • Salary and Benefits

    This position starts at 1 FTE, 40 hrs / week. Starting salary range is $85-90,000 DOE. Opportunity for full time status with salary increase or merit based increase following successful first year review.
