In this position you will assist the Capitol Complex Trade Shop Supervisor as a Master Carpenter supervising skilled carpentry staff and providing consistent quality services to ensure clean, safe and environmentally sound buildings, grounds and operations for all clientele. You will also provide hands-on carpentry work as required to the buildings of the Capitol Complex in St. Paul.
Minimum Qualifications
All applicants must minimally possess journeyman level skill in carpentry gained through one of the following:
Must be able to climb and work from ladders, scaffolding, and aerial lifts; maneuver in small and confined spaces; lift and carry heavy loads more than 50lbs. for short distances up to 50 lbs.; and may be asked to work outside in all weather conditions. Successful candidate must pass: pre-employment physical (CRT Test requirement minimum is medium-heavy, example: able to lift 31-45 LBS frequently 100-300 reps/hour)

Minimum Qualifications
All applicants must minimally possess journeyman level skill in carpentry gained through one of the following:
- Completion of an approved apprenticeship in carpentry (resume must include the date apprenticeship was completed); OR
- Three and one-half years’ experience as a carpenter; OR
- Two-year vocational/technical program in carpentry, plus two years of experience as a carpenter; OR
- One year of vocational/technical program in carpentry, plus three years of experience as a carpenter. (NOTE: Experience must include rough AND finish carpentry to qualify.)
- All applicants must possess a valid class D driver’s license with an acceptable driving record
- Experience in cabinetry
- Ability to read and understand construction, remodeling and repair project plans, blueprints, and specifications sufficient to draft, interpret, modify, and follow to completion new construction, remodeling, and other carpentry projects; and follow standard construction practices of the carpentry trade.
- Ability to build, repair, and install cabinets, plastic laminate, floors, windows and door frames, ceilings, interior trim, steel stud framing, furniture, fixtures, etc. sufficient to complete skilled finish and rough carpentry projects in the construction, maintenance, and repair of buildings and wood structures.
- Ability to operate hand and power carpentry tools and equipment sufficient to build, remodel and repair buildings, wood structures, furniture, etc. and ensure their safe and efficient operation to prevent injury, by inspecting the equipment daily and replacing worn parts; by sharpening blades and edges of hand and power tools; and by repairing or arranging for the repair of damaged or broken equipment.
- Ability to acquire certification from Office of State Procurement to make purchases up to $25,000 within 6 months of hire
- Two (2) years supervisory or lead work experience over one or more skilled trades effectively giving verbal and written work instructions and directing and critiquing the work of subordinate staff
- Experience communicating, advising, and providing cost estimates to customers
