The Department of Corrections is hiring a Grants Lead for its Grants and Contract Unit. This position will provide critical leadwork to members of the Grants team, provide guidance and task assignment to staff in the unit and play a key role in ensuring the effective implementation of centralizing grants and contracts across DOC. This position will also ensure compliance with state requirements and develop policies and procedures to guide DOCs grants. This position will also serve on internal and external workgroups, committees and projects related to grants and contracts. This position will make presentations to internal and external leaders, possess and share advanced technical knowledge and skills related to grants and provide guidance in managing larger or more complex and challenging grants. This position is a great opportunity to develop experience that may lead to a management role.

Minimum Qualifications

To be qualified for and considered for this position, ensure that your resume contains descriptions of your work experiences sufficient for comparison against the requirements stated below and indicate the beginning and ending month and year for each job held.

  • Four (4) years of experience in grant administration, including experience managing a request for proposals process, drafting and reviewing grants. A Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Business, Economics, Finance, or related may substitute for one year of experience, a Master's degree in one of the previously listed areas may substitute for 18 months of experience.
  • Experience reading, comprehending, researching and analyzing statutes, policies, procedures and guidelines in order to interpret and apply these to individual circumstances.
  • Experience with project management, including leading processes with tight timelines, adjusting to changing priorities, strong organizational skills and attention to detail.

Preferred Qualifications

The following qualifications are strongly desired of applicants seeking consideration for this position:

  • Experience managing state grants and/or contract management.
  • Experience in a lead, project manager or supervisory role.
  • Experience and knowledge of Minnesota Department of Administration’s Office of Grants Management and/or Office of State Procurement requirements, policies and procedures.
  • Experience working with community based criminal justice and reentry programs.

Physical Requirements

Additional Requirements

The selection process may include screening the top candidate(s) on their criminal history, predatory offender registration, offender associations and/or other applicable background information in accordance with Department of Corrections’ policy. Top candidate(s) must pass a criminal history check which includes successful completion of all sentencing and/or restitution requirements of law enforcement jurisdictions, including probation.

Employment history/reference checks, including incidents of sexual harassment, will also be conducted on the top candidate(s) in accordance with Department of Corrections’ policy. This may include a review of job performance and discipline records.

New employees will be fingerprinted within the first 30 days of employment.
