This position exists to support facility operations by coordinating and handling Department of Corrections (DOC) commitments, release violators, criminal records, detainers, and releases in accordance with Minnesota Statutes, DOC Policies, and facility procedures. This position will prepare and conduct a complete and careful examination of adult offender releases and detainers for the DOC. This includes the careful review, determination, and final release audit of all aspects of releases and detainers to ensure there are no discrepancies. For each release, this position will audit for active detainers, discipline record, offender identity, and verify appropriate release type and accurate release date of offender.

This position must continuously monitor and manage offender caseload in a timely and accurate manner to ensure caseworkers, security staff, DOC, outside agencies, victims, and the public have current data and to ensure proper incarceration and release of each offender to ensure accurate facility count, accurate public DOC information, victim notification, and overall safety within the facility and community.

This position may have incidental contact with Incarcerated Individuals.

Minimum Qualifications

To be qualified for and considered for this position, applicants must meet all of the minimum qualifications listed below. Ensure that your resume contains descriptions of your work experiences sufficient for comparison against the requirements stated below and indicate the beginning and ending month and year for each job held.

  • English language skills (reading, writing and speaking) sufficient to read, explain and interpret a variety of documents, policies and procedures and compose and edit correspondence and reports using proper grammar, punctuation, and spelling.
  • Typing/keyboarding skills sufficient to perform skilled typing tasks with speed and accuracy. Data entry skills sufficient to accurately enter and save data in the BCA (Bureau of Criminal Apprehension) and COMS systems.
  • Database management skills sufficient to update and maintain data in BCA, COMS, Criminal Justice Information System (CJIS), and offender base files; and sufficient to compile, research and analyze information from databases.
  • Word processing skills, preferably Microsoft Word, sufficient to prepare memos, letters and reports.
  • Spreadsheet skills, preferably Microsoft Excel, sufficient to design, develop and manipulate spreadsheets.
  • Customer service skills sufficient to provide prompt, courteous and accurate information to offenders, staff, and county officials on the phone, through email and other written correspondence.
  • BCA certification or the ability to obtain this certification within the probationary period.

Preferred Qualifications

The following qualifications are strongly desired of applicants seeking consideration for this position:

  • Experience using BCA, CJIS, and/or COMS.
  • Knowledge of data privacy and the Minnesota Data Practices Act.
  • Experience in a correctional environment.
  • Knowledge of the court system and court documents.
  • Experience in developing administrative and programmatic procedures sufficient to obtain, organize, and draft materials

Physical Requirements

Additional Requirements

The selection process may include screening the top candidate(s) on their criminal history, predatory offender registration, offender associations and/or other applicable background information in accordance with Department of Corrections’ policy. Top candidate(s) must pass a criminal history check which includes successful completion of all sentencing and/or restitution requirements of law enforcement jurisdictions, including probation.

Employment history/reference checks, including incidents of sexual harassment, will also be conducted on the top candidate(s) in accordance with Department of Corrections’ policy. This may include a review of job performance and discipline records.

New employees will be fingerprinted within the first 30 days of employment.
