As the Medicaid Services Specialist in the Special Education division within the Minnesota Department of Education (MDE), you will:

  • Initiate and lead the ongoing implementation and continuous improvement of a statewide plan for school access to Medicaid, and other public and private insurance reimbursements.
  • Develop and use continuous improvement strategies for high quality professional development and technical assistance to school districts and charter schools to coordinate special education with state and county Medicaid programs.
  • Engage in capacity building and continuous improvement of high quality professional development and technical assistance to school districts in use of Medicaid and other public and private insurance payments to support implementation and sustainability of special education evidence-based practices.
  • Participate in Special Education Division and other MDE collaborative planning and implementation of "whole child" combined services and supports for students with disabilities.
  • Evaluation of programs that specifically use school billing of public and private insurance to provide services and supports to students with disabilities who have chronic physical and mental health conditions.

Minimum Qualifications

5 years of professional experience managing a school district Medical Assistance billing program and processes.

OR

A bachelor's or master's degree and 4 years of professional experience managing a school district Medical Assistance billing program and processes.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Professional experience coordinating special education with Home and Community Based Services, Community Alternative Care Waiver Services, Community Access for Disability Inclusion Waiver Services, or Children's Mental Health Targeted Case Management, at the school building (special education site) or districtwide program level.
