A dynamic individual with a passion for public health and reducing preventable injuries, due to violence, mental health, or substance misuse is sought to join our Injury Prevention and Mental Health Division team as the Division Director. This position plays a crucial role in improving the health of Minnesotans by directing the work of the Injury Prevention and Mental Health Division.
The Division Director will establish measures for injury and violence prevention, surveillance, control, and mental wellbeing. The position has the opportunity to build and sustain innovative programs and partnerships that integrate health equity, and the leadership of the role will be vital in maintaining key relationships with diverse partners, including federal and state agencies, local health departments, health systems, academic institutions, and community-based organizations.
This position is dedicated to advancing health equity, racial equity, and social justice. The work will to operationalize equity across systems, processes, and programming, creating a dynamic and equitable culture of success for all Minnesotans, particularly those experiencing health disparities.

- Lead and provide strategic direction to the Injury Prevention and Mental Health Division.
- Oversee fiscal leadership and management, ensuring alignment with the Division's strategic priorities and maintaining fiscal accountability.
- Direct and coordinate policy development related to injury, violence, and substance misuse prevention.
- Participate as an active member of the MDH Senior Management Team, aiding leadership in evaluating the potential outcomes of various actions, representing the Department/Division at the MN Legislature as needed, and contributing to interagency teams and committees to support and enhance the Agency's work.
Minimum Qualifications

- Supervising professional level staff.
- Financial oversight such as budgetary oversight, contract or grant management.
- Associate's= 6 months.
- Bachelor’s = 12 months.
- Master’s = 18 months.
- Doctoral = 24 months.
- Knowledge of local public health, community-based organization and health systems and health care provider groups impacting injury, violence, and substance misuse prevention activities.
- Ability to plan, organize and direct a statewide program in injury, violence, or substance misuse prevention.
- Ability to gain support and cooperation in the analysis and design of a system of evaluation of programs.
- Knowledge of the public health financing programs including grant administration.
- Knowledge of the application of epidemiologic principles in the design of public health programs.
- Thorough knowledge of the MDH functions, program policies and procedures.
- Considerable knowledge of federal and state laws and regulations pertaining to state and local public health programs.
- Experience adopting and innovating ideas and fostering collaboration.
- Knowledge of injury, violence, and substance misuse surveillance systems, including methods of data collection, data management, data analysis and distribution of results.
- This position requires successful completion of a background check.
- This employment does not require a valid driver’s license, but it does demand occasional travel, which the candidate will be responsible for meeting.
- The successful candidate under U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services regulations must be able to accept work in the U.S. by the day employment begins. The agency is unable to offer H-1B sponsorship.
