The Executive Pathways Program is a paid summer internship (June – August) for college students to explore a rewarding career in public service.

The Community Engagement and Research Intern will serve in the Resettlement Programs Office, working closely with the Community Outreach and Engagement Team to support community events and outreach activities. The intern will also support the Research Scientist in collecting and analyzing data related to the resettlement programs across the state. This position offers the opportunity to gain hands-on experience in community engagement, event planning, and research while contributing to impactful programs that support resettlement efforts.

Some responsibilities include but not limited to:

  • Community Engagement: Participate in and assist with organizing community events, such as the Welcoming Minnesota Forum, Day at the Park, and Day at the Zoo initiatives.
  • Outreach Activities: Work closely with the Community Engagement Team to conduct outreach and engage with community members, helping to create welcoming spaces for diverse populations.
  • Data Collection & Analysis: Support the Research Scientist in gathering and analyzing data relevant to the Resettlement Programs Office, helping to evaluate the effectiveness of community programs.
  • Collaboration & Reporting: Assist with the preparation of reports, presentations, and insights based on the data collected, and collaborate with both the COE and Research teams to enhance program outcomes

Minimum Qualifications

To be eligible for an internship, you must meet the following requirements:

You must be a student at an accredited educational institution; or recently graduated December 2024 or May 2025

AND

  • Excellent human relations and communication skills sufficient to represent the position and Division in a professional, efficient, and clear manner
  • Ability to work independently and in a team setting
  • Strong organizational and interpersonal skills
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
  • Ability to work with individuals from diverse backgrounds and contribute to a culture of inclusion

Preferred Qualifications

  • Preferred Qualifications include: graduate degree or experience in data analysis or community relations
  • Strong communication and collaboration skills
  • Experience or interest in community engagement and event planning
  • Ability to collect, organize, and analyze data
  • Proficiency in data analysis tools
  • Experience with or interest in resettlement programs or social services
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to synthesize complex information
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team
  • Strong organizational skills and ability to manage multiple tasks
  • Enthusiasm for supporting community outreach and diversity initiatives

Additional Requirements

  • Must be in academic years of sophomore, junior, or senior (Graduate students allowed)
  • Must provide unofficial transcript to show proof of school enrollment
  • Must be willing to reside in Minnesota for the duration of internship
  • Minnesota Department of Human Services (DHS) criminal background check will be conducted on all finalists for this position. Finalists must pass the DHS background check.
