This announcement will be used to fill multiple positions throughout the 2025 operating season at Itasca State Park.

Established in 1891, Itasca is the oldest state park in Minnesota and one of the first state parks in the country. Home to the Headwaters of the Mississippi River, the park is one of the top tourism attractions in the Upper Midwest. Itasca State Park operates 7 days a week with visitors on-site 24 hours a day during peak operations.

Itasca State Park is currently seeking multiple part-time General Maintenance Workers at Itasca State Park to perform routine indoor and outdoor custodial and maintenance tasks. Normal anticipated season dates are from approximately April 30th through October 7th. Work hours vary, and workdays include evenings, holidays, and weekends. Housing may be available.

Responsibilities include:

  • Maintaining building floors and hallways to provide clean, comfortable, healthy, and safe environment using machine or manual processes by sweeping, scrubbing, mopping, waxing, stripping wax, vacuuming, and scrubbing carpets. Cleaning windows, skylights, ceilings, and walls to maintain clean, comfortable, and safe environment by determining appropriate cleaning agents, mixing chemicals, and applying them.
  • Cleaning and maintaining rooms and furniture to provide clean, safe, and usable office, classroom, or meeting space by dusting, moving, rearranging, setting up or taking down tables and chairs, and making minor repairs to furniture.
  • Cleaning restrooms to provide clean, comfortable, and sanitary environment by scrubbing floors, sinks, and stools, maintaining supplies of soap and paper products, and emptying wastebaskets and trash containers.
  • Cleaning sidewalks and parking lots so that orderly appearance and accessibility are ensured by removing rubbish and other materials.
  • Perform grounds work to enhance appearance of landscape, pick up litter, and other materials.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Knowledge of methods, tools, and equipment used for cleaning sufficient to determine proper methods and use effectively and safely.
  • Knowledge of chemical cleaning agents such as ammonia, bleaches, scouring agents, and soaps sufficient to handle, apply, and dispose of safely.
  • Knowledge of safety and accident prevention measures sufficient to identify safety hazards, make necessary repairs, and/or alert appropriate personnel.
  • Ability to read and understand written instructions on product labels, in safety manuals, operation manuals, etc.
  • Ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions.
  • Ability to provide written information and instructions to the public and other employees.
  • Ability to effectively communicate with the public and other employees.
  • Organizational and interpersonal skills sufficient to work as a productive member of a team.
  • Conflict resolution/human relation skills sufficient to negotiate, resolve issues, read situations, and settle disputes equitably by finding common ground and cooperation.

Preferred Qualifications

  • One (1) year cleaning experience.
  • Knowledge of park rules, policies, facilities, and other local points of interest.
  • First Aid and CPR training.
