This is a seasonal position with an anticipated annual work season of April through October. This announcement will be used to fill one Groundskeeper - Seasonal vacancy at the Minnesota Veterans Cemetery - Preston.
This position is responsible for performing lawn, garden, sidewalk and parking maintenance services for the Minnesota State Veterans Cemetery in Preston, Minnesota. Such duties include planting, cutting, mowing, raking, seeding, sodding, hedging, trimming, fertilizing, and watering cemetery grounds; cleaning sidewalks and parking lots by utilizing motorized blowers and sweeper, hand shoveling snow and operating power snow removal equipment, applying sand and/or deicers and removing ice; removal of trash by manually hauling refuse to dumpsters. Assisting with grave opening/closing functions at the grave site area such as hand digging, thawing, tamping, raking and leveling. Assisting with placement of headstones and markers by operating power equipment, hand digging, heavy lifting, leveling, and tamping.

Knowledge of
- Groundskeeping practices/techniques sufficient to assist in planting, pruning trees, plants, shrubs and turf.
- Hand and power tools and landscaping equipment sufficient to safely and effectively operate and perform preventative maintenance and minor repairs.
- Safety and accident prevention measures sufficient to identify safety hazards, make necessary repairs, and/or alert appropriate personnel.
- Operate motorized vehicles (e.g., trucks, mowers) and equipment (e.g., chainsaws, weed whips, tamper, etc.).
- Effectively communicate with the public and other employees.
- Experienced with any repair, maintenance, fabrication or installation work.
- Experience with basic fertilizer application.
- Cemetery groundskeeping experience.
- Knowledge of Microsoft Suite software such as Word, Excel, Outlook, and Teams.
