This position provides administrative support for the Minnesota Department of Veterans Affairs, Statewide Director, Education and Employment Division. This position will develop and implement office administrative procedures. This position will respond orally and in writing to a wide range of technical questions and will independently research, answer and/or appropriately refer. This position requires knowledge of terminology related to serving military veterans and their family members in an educational setting. This position requires knowledge of special software programs as may be determined by the Department of Veterans Affairs. The position requires the development of documents utilizing Microsoft Office, specifically Word, Excel, and PowerPoint. The position requires the gathering and compiling of statewide data for the Higher Education Veterans Programs (HEVP). This position will schedule meetings for the director and other HEVP employees. The position requires budget monitoring and budget recommendations and will manage purchasing of supplies for the statewide HEVP Director and Regional Coordinator offices. This position will provide work direction to other employees, students and volunteers.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Knowledge of communications sufficient to communicate effectively with internal and external customers.
  • Customer service skills sufficient to provide prompt, courteous and accurate information to a variety of customers over the phone, in person and via email.
  • Knowledge of keyboarding/typing skills sufficient to perform skilled typing tasks with speed and accuracy.
  • Knowledge of standard computer software programs (such as Microsoft Office) for word processing, spreadsheets, and databases sufficient to create, modify, and protect files.
  • Document and records management sufficient to maintain electronic or paper files for efficient organization and retrieval of information such as contracts, grants, agreements, and other various documents.
  • Knowledge of math sufficient to calculate totals, averages, and percentages of numbers and/or data.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Knowledge of working with college and/or university administration.
  • Experience with accounting/financial tracking systems/software.
  • Experience developing and executing inter-governmental agreements such as Joint Powers Agreements, Cooperation Agreements, Systems Access Requests, etc.
