COMPENSATION: Typical starting range $94,640.00 - $118,300.00 annually
STATUS & HOURS: Full-time, regular (approximately 2,080 annual hours) position.
BENEFITS: Eligible to participate in State Employee Group Insurance Program and a retirement program with employer contribution. Generous vacation and sick time accruals with additional paid holidays.

DESCRIPTION: This position exists to develop, manage, and lead MNHS community engagement strategy, developing sustained relationships with diverse communities, and lead diversity, equity, inclusion, and access (DEAI) efforts in support of the overall MNHS strategic direction of the organization. This position will work towards building and maintaining trust with communities historically not- or underrepresented in MNHS exhibits, collections, members, and programs.
SUMMARY OF WORK: 1) Provide the vision and leadership for the development and implementation of the Minnesota Historical Society’s Community Engagement partnerships, initiatives, and programs; 2) Develop relationships with community organizations with an emphasis on underrepresented communities that lead to sustainable partnerships and result in diverse program offerings across MNHS; 3) Provide leadership for the development and integration of diversity and inclusion practices, programs, and services across MNHS; 4) Lead and manage department operations by developing structures, systems and processes that anticipate and meet organizational needs; and 5) Provide overall direction for hiring, training, supervision, and motivation for assigned staff, interns, and volunteers, and ensure overall compliance with MNHS policies and procedures.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Bachelor of Arts degree in humanities, education, American studies or a related field with specialized courses in diversity and inclusion or equivalent.
Eight years Diversity and Inclusion program management experience.
Strong knowledge and ability to apply current practices and trends regarding diversity and inclusion in the workplace.
General knowledge of the history of the principal racial, ethnic, and cultural groups in the United States.
Experience and ability in personnel management and supervision, including talent management and strengthening workplace culture.
Management experience, and leadership qualities in formulating objectives, setting priorities, and planning.
Flexibility and versatility in judgment, analysis, and organizational ability to develop, coordinate, and manage a wide variety of projects and procedures.
Demonstrate grace and tenacity to manage the conflict and discomfort that is often part of moving forward in D&I work.
Highly developed interpersonal skills to negotiate, mediate and collaborate with a wide variety of people with a diverse range of knowledge and skills and diverse backgrounds, education and interests.
Demonstrated ability to work on a team and lead others toward a common goal.
Demonstrated ability to think imaginatively and problem solve through challenging D&I situations.
Demonstrated positive customer service skills.
Ability to work together with a broad range of constituencies including visitors, schools, donors, trustees, researchers, historic site and museum professionals, members of minority or disadvantaged communities, local tribal communities, state and local government officials, and the general public.
Thorough knowledge of and the ability to manage the process of long- and short-range program and financial planning.
Experience in managing large, multiple, complex D&I projects through periods of growth, reduction, and change.
Ability to effectively manage up to leadership.
Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing, and to speak effectively to both large and small groups; able to respectfully translate professional jargon.
Experience creating networks and connections among a widely dispersed staff and within local communities.
Knowledge of Diversity Assessment tools such as the Intercultural Development Inventory or Implicit Association Tests.
General knowledge and experience with the administration of medium to large sized nonprofit organizations.
Willingness to travel and work evenings and weekends, as needed.
Valid driver’s license.
DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
Advanced degree.
Broad knowledge of American and Minnesota history and familiarity with current trends in historiography.
Certification in one or more Diversity Assessment tools such as the Intercultural Development Inventory or Implicit Association Tests.
Participation on an Inclusion & Equity council.
Experience with fundraising and grant writing.
Broad knowledge of MNHS and its programs.
