This position will be part of the Enterprise Services team, which delivers a full suite of services to state agencies, boards, councils, and commissions, and many central services to local government partners.

As an Electronic Technician Senior for Minnesota IT Services (MNIT) you will provide electronic technical support including installation, maintenance and repair of network services, specifically in the areas of the TCP/IP networks, Internet Protocol Telephony, and Video Conferencing, and WAN/LAN infrastructure.

This position involves up to 95% travel within southwest Minnesota, with a State vehicle provided. Occasional backup support to other Electronic Technicians statewide will also be required. To fulfill this requirement, you must possess a current and valid Class D driver's license, as traveling between agency-based offices is an essential part of the job.

This position requires an employee to be onsite and traveling between sites up to 95% of the time throughout the Southwestern area of Minnesota to various state offices and agencies to provide technical support. There will be very limited opportunity to perform work from a telework location. Only candidates residing in Minnesota and its bordering counties are eligible for telework.

Minimum Qualifications

This position requires a minimum of two (2) years of experience with electronics technology and/or networking.

Experience must include:

• Telecommunication services (cellular, fiber and ethernet circuits) and devices (Routers, Ethernet Switches, Wireless technologies), used in computer data communications.
• Cisco routers and switches and command line configuring and an understanding of IP routing.
• Wiring standards, installing wiring and resolving wiring problems as required.
• Operation of data line monitors, TDR, OTDR, and other Test Sets used to accomplish service repairs, installation and maintenance.
• Ability to deliver effective verbal or written messages that facilitate a mutual understanding on both parties.
• Customer service skills that include active listening, empathy, and problem-solving.
  
  

An associate’s degree or higher in Electronics Technology or related field substitutes for two (2) year of experience.

Preferred Qualifications

• A Vocational/technical program in Electronics Technology, such as an Associated in Applied Science degree or an Electronic Technician diploma.
• Extensive knowledge of wiring standards, installing wiring in a neat and professional fashion when necessary, and to resolving wiring problems as required.
• Knowledge of fiber optic facilities.
• Ability to troubleshoot circuit communication problems.
• Ability to analyze isp circuit communication problems, identify the cause, and then decide which solution fits best.
• Ability to isolate and resolve network problems.
• Knowledge and ability to install and maintain UPS, Transfer Switch, and other backup power generation equipment.
  
  

Physical Requirements

Ability to lift up to 50 pounds, bend, reach, and use ladders for work from floor to ceiling.
