About the Opportunity
Camp Counselors are energetic, fun-loving individuals who are excited to work with youth as part of a summer camp team in a dynamic outdoor environment. The MN JCC Camp Counselor is responsible for the health and welfare of each individual in their group. The counselor will create a welcoming and positive group environment, be a good leader and mentor, help the group to carry out all planned activities, and ensure their campers are having a safe and positive camp experience.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
- Responsible for being conscious of and protecting the health, safety, and welfare of all campers in any area or programs at camp.
- Attends and contributes to pre-camp training sessions, regularly scheduled staff meetings and training sessions once camp is in session. Participates in the open house and any family events.
- Helps the group to plan and carry out all its activities.
- Ensures that all campers are involved, safe and having a positive experience.
- Contributes to the planning and implementation of group times, unit programs, field trips, late nights, overnights, and cookouts as assigned.
- Expected to get in the pool with the campers and fully participate in all other camp specialty activities.
- Conscientious of and helps to clean up camp areas (i.e. villages, tent, fields, lodge, etc.).
- May be called upon to contribute some special skills, depending on ability, to the group’s or camp’s programs, such as leading games or songs.
- If assigned, assumes share of responsibility for bus duty.
- Other tasks as assigned by the camp leaders.
