About the Opportunity
The MN JCC Camps Unit Head is a seasonal leadership position supervised by the Camp Director. The Unit Head is responsible for supervising camp program operations within their assigned age group unit, including supervising and mentoring staff, assisting with training, activity planning and leading camp programs, and working directly with campers on an as needed basis. Applicants for the Unit Head position will ideally have previous camp and leadership-related experience. Unit Heads are role models for staff and must lead by example.
Daily Schedule: Monday - Friday, 8 hour daily shifts, earliest arrival 8:00 AM, latest departure: 4:30 PM.
Base Daily Rate : $124 day (based on 8 hour work day). Plus opportunities for additional pay / bonuses.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
- Responsible for being conscious of and protecting the health, safety, and welfare of all campers in any area or programs at camp.
- As part of the camp seasonal leadership team, serve as a role model and leader in the camp community
- Attend and contributes to pre-camp training sessions, regularly scheduled staff meetings and training sessions once camp is in session. Participates in the open house and any family events.
- Directly supervise all counselors in your assigned unit/age group
- Lead weekly meetings with assigned unit to program plan.
- Implement and evaluate weekly village/unit programs and Friday all camp programs based on weekly themes.
- Plan and supervise unit specific field trips, late nights, and overnights (attendance is mandatory).
- Assist in planning and leading all camp programs and during all camp gatherings
- Maintain daily involvement with the groups (i.e. participating with a group in an activity, presence at unit/age group activities, lunch, etc.)
- Support and guide staff when campers are presenting challenging behaviors.
- Parent communication; including newsletters, individual camper updates, and general unit information.
- Assist in planning and implementation of staff training week.
- Assist and complete other administrative tasks as requested by the Camp Director.
