Judge Robert Raupp, chambered in Benton County, Foley, Minnesota, seeks qualified candidates for a judicial law clerk position. Judge Raupp seeks a motivated, professional individual to become a part of his judicial team in Benton County, Minnesota. The successful applicant will have a good academic record, excellent research and writing skills, and the ability to work both individually and as part of a highly energetic, dedicated, and positive team.
Judicial clerkships offer insights into the judicial decision-making process and practical litigation experience. One of the benefits of an out-state judicial clerkship is the exposure to a multi-faceted caseload, exposing you to a wide range of legal styles and abilities. In this position you will observe hearings and trials and assist the judge in managing court cases in all arenas : criminal, civil, family, probate, juvenile and conciliation. Some matters will be easily addressed, while others complex and challenging.
This position will : Provide an opportunity to work closely and develop relationships with other law clerks, judges, court staff, and attorneys; help expand and enhance your research and writing skills; and provide reasonable work hours / work-life balance.
This Law Clerk will work directly with Judge Raupp performing professional legal research, preparing memoranda, opinions, and orders, and performing related administrative work. This position provides support for the functions of a Judge to uphold the court's mission of providing justice through a system that assures equal access for the fair and timely resolution of cases and controversies.
Law Clerks are at-will employees and the work is performed under the supervision of a District Court Judge.
What You Will Do
The following are examples of major job duties expected of this position :
- Review and research laws, court decisions, briefs, and other legal authorities
- Confer with judge regarding legal issues, prepares legal memoranda, and assists with drafting orders for judge
- May attend court sessions to observe court proceedings and record case information
- May perform courtroom duties in arraignments, motions, hearings, pre-trial conferences, and trials including calling the calendar, swearing in jury panels and witnesses, and assisting in documenting court proceedings
- May perform administrative duties within judge's chambers
