As agency Chief Counsel, serve as the senior executive responsible for chief in-house legal counsel for the Minnesota Department of Transportation. Duties include :
- Provide confidential attorney-client privileged legal services and advice to the Commissioner and to the agency.
- Manage and provide legal direction for the professional attorneys and staff of MnDOT’s Office of the Chief Counsel.
- Serve as primary legal liaison with the Governor’s General Counsel, other state agency chief counsels, and the Minnesota Attorney General’s Office.
- Manage and coordinate the agency’s legal services and compliance activities regarding transportation legal issues and litigation related to contracts and agreements, construction law, environmental law, tort issues, civil rights programs, and privacy and government data laws.
This position may be located in any of MnDOT’s district offices including Metro District and Central Office. It has the flexibility to work a hybrid schedule or work in the office. If working a hybrid schedule, the incumbent will be required to report to the office once a week and make a telework arrangement with their supervisor. In-state travel is up to 15% of the time, and out of state travel may include several conferences each year.
