Classification Summary
Cook County Human Services is accepting applications for a Social Services Supervisor position.
This position performs professional work in the administration and supervision of social services programs of adult and home and community based services, including the interpretation and assessment of policies and the supervision of professional, paraprofessional, and office support personnel; supervises a team providing services in the following program areas: Adult Services, Adult Protection, HCBS Waiver Services, Care Coordination for Managed Care Programs, Rep Payee services, VA/DD targeted Case Management, and Cook County In-Home Support Program, a DHS-licensed provider of home and community-based services.

Examples of Duties
- Selects qualified personnel for the unit.
- Identifies staff development and training needs and ensures that training is obtained.
- Evaluates staff performance and recommends appropriate action.
- Holds individual supervision with staff
- Interprets agency/state policies, rules, and regulations.
- Reviews case records to ensure agency and state policies, rules, and regulations are adhered to and proper social work practices are being observed.
- Monitors and evaluates the provision of client services in the program area.
- Fosters effective community-agency relations and organizes community projects.
- Handles emergency situations when necessary including mental health emergencies, Pre-petition Screening Team, emergency guardianships & placements.
- Monitors program budget areas and keeps management appraised of budget deviations.
- Interviews clients when problems arise, listen to concerns, grievances and recommends/takes appropriate action.
- Maintains records, prepares reports, and composes correspondence relative to the work
Minimum Qualifications
Or
Baccalaureate degree from an accredited institution in social work from an accredited college/university and two years of experience as a social worker.
Or
Baccalaureate degree from an accredited institution in a closely related field (psychology, sociology, human services) and three years of experience as a social worker.
OR
Baccalaureate degree in a unrelated field from an accredited college/university and five years of experience as a social worker.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree and six years’ experience as a social worker; or a M.A. degree in clinical psychology, counseling, psychology, human services administration, or closely related field and four years of experience as a social worker. Or an equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to perform the essential functions of the job.
- Ability to pass a criminal background check.
- Two years of supervisory experience is preferred
Must have a valid driver’s license
Examination Process
The examination will consist of a rating of training and experience based on the information you provide in your application and your responses to the supplemental questions included in the application process.
