Reports to: MNCSPersonnel team, Special Services Team, Board of Directors

Responsible to: Special Services Team, indirect supervision by Special Education Director

Terms of Employment: To be established by the Personnel Team and Board of Directors annually.

Evaluation: Performance in this position will be evaluated annually by the Personnel Team

Compensation: $19.00-$24.00 per hour (wages based on schooling and experience)

Job Summary:

Responsible for providing direct and pull-out support in planning instruction and/or adaptations of the instructional program using intervention models to facilitate student learning in accordance with school policies. Design and implement specific strategies through the team process to promote intellectual, social, and physical growth in all identified students. Supports the instructional programs of regular and special education teachers.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities (Other duties may be assigned):

  • Monitor at-risk students with the assistance of the intervention team for the purpose of determining the appropriate interventions.
  • Communicate effectively with at-risk students, parents, community agencies, administration, and teachers.
  • Attend meetings for the purpose of enlisting help for at-risk students and keeping track of their progress.
  • Gather data, maintain files, and monitor students for the purpose of enlisting help for students and keeping track of their progress.
  • Address truancy issues by providing direct interventions at school sites under the guidance of the school social worker and the student assistance team
  • Work with the school counselor to participate in interventions and referrals.
  • When working with students in special education, work with case managers, all members of the IEP team, and paraprofessionals to help implement and track interventions or behaviors.
  • Collaborate with the special education case managers and other members of the IEP team in order to develop and implement behavior intervention plans and/or positive behavior interventions and supports.
  • Provide special education services as written in Individualized Education Program (IEP) plan for identified students to support students in meeting their social/emotional/behavioral goals.
  • Provide peer mediation and conflict resolution for students, staff, and parents.
  • Advise team leaders and advisors/teachers on issues regarding at-risk students.
  • Identify students who are at risk of dropping out of high school and develop intervention strategies for working with those students.
  • Maintain a database for keeping track of behavior interventions and the progress of the students.
  • Meet with students on a regular basis to facilitate students’ self-understanding and improvement of their behaviors and performance.

MNCS Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Develop and carry out yearly professional development plan
  • Follow the direction of EdVisions Coop and the Board of Directors
  • Serve on site based and professional teams as needed
  • Chaperone events and field trips, and supervise students as needed
  • Refer to letter of employment for work schedule
  • Participate in Staff Evaluation Process and Self Evaluation Process
  • Follow established procedures for school purchases
  • Attend all required professional development and staff meetings
  • Request PTO days (absences etc.) with personnel team

Supervisory Responsibilities:

  • Supervise students in multiple educational settings.

Qualifications and Requirements:

Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience
  • 2 or more years of related experience or training
  • Experience providing de-escalation, redirection, and restorative practices in a school setting
  • Knowledge of Responsive Classroom, Response to Intervention, and Principles of Restorative Justice

Communication Skills:

  • Ability to read, analyze, and interpret periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or government regulations.
  • Ability to write reports, correspondence, and procedure manuals consistent with the duties of this position.
  • Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from administrators, staff, and the public.

Reasoning Ability:

  • Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of variables in situations where only limited standardization exists.
  • Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule formats.

Other Skills and Abilities:

  • Demonstrates patience, respect, and understanding for students.
  • Demonstrates a sense of professional responsibility.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Ability to perform duties in full compliance with special education district requirements and school board policy.

While performing the duties of this job the employee is frequently required to stand and talk or hear and sometimes walk and sit. While performing the duties of this job the employee may occasionally push or lift up to 50 pounds such as boxes of books and technology carts. The employee may be required to complete crisis intervention training for the physical restraint of students. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision such as reading handwritten or typed material, and ability to adjust focus. The position requires the individual to meet multiple demands from several people and interact with the public and other staff.

The noise level in the work environment is quiet to loud depending on the activities of the day. Duties are performed indoors and occasionally outdoors. Duties may also include working with students in public settings.
