What are the responsibilities and job description for the Planned Giving Officer (Temporary) position at Minnesota Public Radio?
Position Summary:
We seek a detail-oriented and relationship-focused professional for a 6-month appointment as a Planned Giving Officer. Minnesota Public Radio has a robust planned giving program, including approximately 1400 households in our Legacy Society. This 6-month appointment focuses on connecting with current members of the Legacy Society to verify their gifts, while coordinating strategic donor outreach to cultivate new planned gifts.
The successful candidate will audit current planned gift documentation, implement process improvements, and work collaboratively with the development team to expand our planned giving portfolio. This position offers an excellent opportunity for a development professional seeking to make a significant impact within a focused timeframe.

Expected Compensation Range: Minimum: $33.65 Middle: $37.50 Maximum: $40.87/per hour. Exact hourly rate determined by experience and education related to the role, organizational compensation structure and internal equity.

Your Role:
- Audit and evaluate the current portfolio of planned gift pledges to confirm existing information and identify opportunities to enhance existing planned gift pledge data
- Conduct donor outreach to discuss existing planned giving commitments, including follow up to secure documentation
- Personal follow up on planned giving leads and new planned gifts that donors alert us to through a variety of channels
- In partnership with our planned giving vendor (Stelter), develop and implement outreach strategies to engage prospective PG donors.
- Collaborate with Mid-level and Major Giving Officers to advance planned giving relationships and metrics alongside broader fundraising efforts
- Provide clear reporting on portfolio status and outreach effectiveness
Required Education and Experience:
- Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience required.
- 2 years’ experience in prospect management, donor cultivation, stewardship, and solicitation is required.
- Experience in philanthropy and engaging with donors.
Required Skills, Knowledge and Abilities:
- Excellent phone and email communication skills - proficient in developing trust and rapport through remote interactions
- Demonstrated history of successful project management
- Understanding of and commitment to confidentiality principles
- Well-organized with exceptional attention to detail and follow-through
- Ability to collaborate effectively with colleagues across multiple departments/divisions
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) or comparable software
- Proven track record of meeting or exceeding metrics and targets
Preferred Skills and Experience:
- Experience working in public media.
- Experience with SalesForce or similar CRM.
- 5 years’ experience in prospect management, donor cultivation, stewardship, and solicitation
- Expertise in planned giving, including familiarity with planned giving instruments and program management
