Job Title : School Readiness Preschool Paraprofessional
Job Description : Assist Early Childhood teacher to help set up, maintain classroom environment, keep materials supplied, prep needed materials, and work directly with the children at Kasson-Mantorville Community Education in the Early Childhood Program. This position is 8 : 15 AM - 2 : 45 PM M-F approximately 28-30 hrs / wk. This position begins immediately upon hire. Starting pay $18.91 or higher with experience.
Daily Duties Include :
- Greet and assist children and parents upon arrival and departure.
- Assist in maintaining a safe classroom environment for children.
- Assist the lead teacher in classroom daily activities and routines to promote smooth transitions.
- Communicate any important observations regarding student actions or development to the lead teacher.
- Provide comfort to distressed children through compassion and tact.
- Develop positive relationships with children with a view to promote self-esteem and self-discipline.
- Provide children with support and assistance during snack / bathroom times.
- Support the lead teacher by assisting with student behavior interventions.
- Oversee children to make sure that they are safe during indoor & outdoor activities using active supervision.
- Dress appropriately for indoor and outdoor activities.
- Always use appropriate language and the tone of voice is positive.
- Communicate with children at eye-level using simple, short and specific directions.
- Log attendance and milk counts.
- Maintain student confidentiality.
- Provide support specified by students special education individual education plan (IEP).
- Validate children's emotions by naming them and helping them talk about their feelings.
- Engage with children during class activities and encourage children to play together.
- Ensure students' basic needs are met (attention / love, food / water, activity / rest, safety / protection, clean / safe environment).
Qualifications : Experience working with children ages 3-5 and knowledge of child development preferred.
