Description
The Minnesota State Fair has a rich history of horticulture that can be seen inside its buildings and throughout the fairgrounds. Many of the outdoor gardens and plant displays are grown year-round in our greenhouse. Once spring arrives, our Horticulture departments needs help preparing and creating the beautiful displays that nearly 2 million visitors see every year.
Employment Type
Summer Employment - Flexible schedules are available with start dates in mid-March through the beginning of June and ending after approximately 25 weeks.
Shifts are available Monday through Friday, 7 : 00 a.m. - 3 : 30 p.m. Flexible hours are available if needed.
Extended hours during peak times, including some weekends and evenings are required. These times typically take place at the beginning in August.
Available to work during Minnesota State Fair, August 21 - September 1, 2025 preferred.
Essential Functions
Assist with planting, care and upkeep of State Fair greenhouse and gardens. This includes :
Watering plants and gardens
Hauling plants and materials
Planting, digging, mulching, weeding, pruning, fertilizing and transplanting.
General manual labor tasks.
Work environment includes indoor work in the greenhouse and outdoor work throughout the fairgrounds. Outdoor environment includes exposure to weather conditions (heat / cold, rain, wind, humidity etc.).
The greenhouse may include hazardous substances, exposure to high levels of heat and sunlight, dirt and dust, humidity, noise, bright / dim lighting and mechanical hazards.
Assist with tasks assigned by either the immediate supervisor or other full-time staff members as needed.
Requirements
Available to work within flexible schedule provided.
Must be at least 16 years of age or older.
Extended hours during peak times and consecutive days without time off are required.
Ability to work with others, as well as independently, and to work quickly and efficiently.
Excellent communication skills with other team members.
Ability to stand, bend, twist and kneel during work activities for extended periods of time.
