Job Description
This position exists to provide clean room laboratory technical assistance and support to the faculty in the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering & Technology at Minnesota State University, Mankato..
Minimum Qualifications
- 1 year of hands-on experience working in a cleanroom facility or a combination of education and experience will be considered. Education in Electrical Engineering, Materials Science, Physics, Chemical Engineering, or a related field can substitute as follows - AAS – 6 Months, BS – 12 Months, MS – 18 Months
- Experience working in a cleanroom environment, preferably in a university or research setting.
- Familiarity with semiconductor processing, microfabrication, or related technologies through coursework, research, or hands-on experience.
- Knowledge of semiconductor fabrication techniques, including photolithography, etching (wet and dry), deposition, and thin-film processes.
- Familiarity with the properties and handling of hazardous chemicals, gases, and materials commonly used in semiconductor and microfabrication.
- Basic understanding of vacuum systems, electronics, and troubleshooting related to cleanroom equipment.
- Awareness of safety regulations and standards for hazardous materials, chemical handling, and cleanroom safety (e.g., OSHA, MSDS)
- Ability to perform basic troubleshooting and maintenance on cleanroom tools and systems, including diagnosing issues and conducting repairs or coordinating with specialists.
- High level of organizational skills for managing inventories, scheduling equipment use, and maintaining a structured cleanroom environment.
Preferred Qualification
- Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Materials Science, Physics, Chemical Engineering or related field.
- Demonstrated commitment to fostering a diverse working and learning environment.
- Additional coursework or certifications in cleanroom technology, microfabrication, or semiconductor processing.
- Demonstrated expertise in troubleshooting complex cleanroom equipment, including preventive maintenance and repairs.

Work safely at all times, which includes but is not limited to, participating and completing all required safety trainings, as well as performing all job tasks in accordance with Minnesota State University, Mankato policies and procedures utilizing appropriate tools, equipment and personal protective equipment.
