    Job Duties and Requirements:
    1. Provide consultation and direct instruction for identified deaf and hard of hearing students birth through age 21 within their educational setting(s).
    2. Serve as the teacher of the deaf/hard of hearing in the assessment and identification of children with potential hearing loss.
    3. Serve as a resource and liaison to parents and educators working with outside agencies.
    4. Review and interpret available medical/audiological information pertaining to the student's hearing results.
    5. Demonstrate knowledge and skills in the areas of language development and language refinement needed by hearing impaired children
    6. Demonstrate knowledge and ability to implement the following specialized areas: auditory training, speech and speech reading, monitoring amplification use and maintenance of hearing aids, and use of interpreter.
    7. Determine, as part of a team, the need for, and the selection, acquisition, and use of hearing technologies and assistive technologies to meet the needs of children and youth with hearing loss;
    8. Participate in IEP/IFSP/IIIP development and program planning for students on caseload.
      Participate as a member of the special education team to evaluate current services and plan for future needs.
    9. Communicates, as appropriate, with parents outside normal classroom, including attending team conferences with parents.
    10. Establishes and maintains standards of pupil behavior to achieve an effective learning atmosphere.
    11. Maintains and improves professional skills by participating in building and department meetings, formal coursework, workshops, and seminars in an effort to stay current with best teaching practices.
    12. Will participate in training on third party reimbursement and implement third party reimbursement tasks as needed.
    13. Works in a supportive and collaborative manner with colleagues and supervisors. Demonstrated ability to work successfully with a team in homebased, center-based and inclusion settings.
    14. Participates in a professional learning community on a regular basis.
    15. Teachers of the Deaf/Hard of Hearing (DHH) must provide evidence of proficiency in American Sign Language (ASL) for their first DHH teaching license. Their ASL skill level is measured by the Sign Language Proficiency Interview (SLPI). The rating from the SLPI must be Intermediate Plus or higher to receive the DHH license. If the SLPI rating is Survival to Intermediate level, the teacher is eligible for an Oral/Aural Deaf Education license. Teacher candidates needing to take the SLPI should contact the Minnesota State Academy for the Deaf (MSAD).

    Specific Responsibilities:
    1. Collaborative work in a fast-paced environment interacting with students, staff, administrators, parents, and the community with multiple requests and concerns.
    2. Support and communicate with other administrators and staff.
    3. Respond in emergency situations.
    4. Know, interpret, and follow school District policies.
    5. May plan and coordinate the work of paraprofessionals and volunteers in the classroom and on field trips.
    6. May provide input to the goal-setting process for paraprofessionals.

    Knowledge and Skills:
    1. Experience working with children and their families with identified special education needs and hearing loss
    2. Demonstrated ability to apply appropriate skills in performing daily routines.
    3. Demonstrated ability to operate a computer, software and necessary technology.
    4. Ability to develop effective and positive working relationships with students, staff, administrators, parents, and the community.
    5. Maintain professional composure while dealing with a variety of personalities and situations.
    6. Show initiative and function as a self-starter.
    7. Evidence of strong written and oral communication skills, and interpersonal skills as applied to interaction with coworkers, supervisor, the general public, etc. sufficient to exchange or convey information and to receive work direction.
