What are the responsibilities and job description for the Summer Camp Instructor position at Minot Park District?
GENERAL PURPOSE:
The primary responsibility of this position is to create a connection between campers and animals that will impact the camper’s desire to care for the natural world. This involves assisting with lessons and activities both indoors and outdoors, while monitoring camper safety and participation. Camp instructor is responsible for creating an exciting and welcoming environment for campers and families. This position will also help facilitate the ZooTeen Volunteers, Zoo Summer Camp and Snore N Roar Overnight Camp Program.
PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Incumbent(s) may not be required to perform all duties listed and may be required to perform additional, position-specific duties.
- Must commit to working 32-40 hours per week for 13 weeks between the dates May 19 – August 9 (includes some weekends, holidays, and overnights) .
- Uphold the mission and goals of the zoo in all educational programming .
- Responsible for delivering Zoo Summer Camp and Snore N Roar Overnight Program for all ages.
- Supervise the safety of campers, coordinate daily camp activities, set up and breakdown of equipment and activities related to camp.
- Implement on-site education events to showcase zoo animals and zoo conservation efforts
- Assist in all aspects of ZooTeen program.
- Perform other duties as assigned or required.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Education and Experience:
High School Diploma required
Prefer college degree in an education or science related field or any equivalent combination of education, training, and experience that provides the required skills, knowledge, and abilities. Previous experience delivering formal/informal education preferred.
The ideal candidate will possess knowledge and interest in nature and science.
Required Licenses or Certifications:
- Valid driver’s license
- Pass preemployment background check
Required Knowledge of:
- Knowledge and experience in interpretive techniques
- Knowledge and experience in current teaching trends
- Maintain a professional appearance and positive image to the public
Required Skill in:
- Excellent communication skills both written and verbal
- Strong speaking and organizational skills, including the ability to multi-task
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with staff, volunteers and public
- Comfortable working around and/or be trained to handle Ambassador Animals for educational programs
Work Environment:
- Work is performed in and around zoo facilities
- Exposure to outdoor weather conditions such as heat, humidity, rain, cold and inclement weather will be required
- Must be able to lift 50lbs, stoop, bend, and walk for long distances
- Must be flexible to work weekends and overnights
