GENERAL DESCRIPTION:
A Residence Hall Director (RHD) is a Minot State student employed by the Residence Life Office (RLO) to lead a residence hall in the development of community, to assist with campus safety and security, and manage residence hall administrative tasks. The position requires the individual to be a supervisor of fellow student staff, demonstrating good judgement, people skills, and initiative.
The RHD position is a 10-month position beginning with Staff Training before the fall semester and ends the Monday after Spring Graduation. The weekly time commitment will vary as the responsibilities are influenced by the tasks associated with the time of year and the behaviors of students living on campus but is estimated to 12 hours per week.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITES INCLUDE BUT ARE NOT LIMITED TO:
Position will require a minimum of 12 hours per week.
RHD duties take precedence over all non-academic activities.
- Attend all staff trainings, meetings, professional/staff development sessions, and other meetings as scheduled by the RLC.
- Handle the opening and closure of residence hall(s) and any room check-in/out procedures.
- Maintain hall(s) by completing work orders, damage reports, incident reports, etc.
- Develop work schedule for building staff.
- Confront individuals or groups violating University or Residence Hall rules and regulations.
- Enforce all rules and regulations with consistency and fairness while providing rational concerning
- University and Residence Hall policies.
- Develop RA staff in enforcing all rules and regulations with consistency and fairness.
- Assist staff with development of programs in the hall. Track staff’s program requirement fulfillments through programming paperwork and provide feedback on programs.
Preferred Qualifications
REQUIREMENTS:
- Must be enrolled degree seeking student at Minot State University. Graduate student status preferred.
- The Residence Life Office staff are supportive of the academic success of its employees. In order to be effective in the RHD position, as well as their studies, RHDs are expected to maintain a cumulative semester GPA of 3.0. Continued failure to maintain a 3.0 GPA may affect employment status. Continued employment is dependent on a positive, significant progress toward a degree.
- RHDs are expected to abide by all Residence Hall and University Policies and support the decisions and actions of the Residence Life Office.
- In order to be effective in the RHD position, as well as their studies, employment and extracurriculars outside of academic experiences (student teaching, practicum, clinical, etc.) must receive approval by the RLC prior to the semester they occur and will be subject to periodic review in relation to job performance.
- Attend Fall and Spring training sessions, staff meetings, one-on-ones, staff/professional development, and other events as assigned.
- Hall Staff must stay on campus until the Saturday after finals week in December and the Monday after graduation in May
