Job Title: Optical Engineer

Background/Need:
The Group collaborates with other internal Divisions, external partners, and with academia. The group is multi-disciplinary with broad expertise across domains and focuses on hardware and software prototype development. Technologies are demonstrated on a wide variety of platforms, including satellite, airborne, and terrestrial systems. Our employees work closely with sponsors and collaborators to accelerate and adopt emerging technologies into systems that demonstrate advanced capabilities.
Responsibilities:
The role involves engineering research, design, analytical tasks, optical system alignment and testing. The selected candidate will be responsible for operating highly sophisticated technical experimental apparatus and instruments in various labs. Equipment includes high power ultrafast lasers, spectroscopic devices, and lock-in amplifiers.
Must Have:
Ph.D. in mechanical, electrical engineering, or other related field with 5 years of experience with optical and mechanical systems.
Expert in nonlinear optics and spectroscopy, including Raman spectroscopy and coherent (stimulated) Raman scattering techniques.
Proficient understanding of ultrafast laser technology, including alignment and characterization of ultrafast beams and measurement of temporal profiles.
Experienced with acquisition, analyses, processing of optical imaging data and spectra from various optical systems and samples, including Raman spectrometer and imaging systems.
Familiar with optical component mounting techniques including kinematic (exact constraint) design principles.
Experienced with lock-in amplifier technology and integration into optical sensing systems.
Ability to design various chemical and biological sample systems using micro- and nano-fabrication techniques.
Ability to read and generate mechanical / optical drawings and perform basic tolerance analyses.
Experience of collaborating across academia and with multiple program sponsors.
Ability to work closely and communicate with multiple engineering disciplines including mechanical, optical, thermal, electrical, and systems.
Education & Experience: PhD with 5 Years of relevant work experience.
Work Authorization: US Citizenship is required due to the nature of the work.
