What are the responsibilities and job description for the Medical Coder position at Minutemen OhioComp?
Minutemen OhioComp is currently seeking a Full-Time Certified Coder for our Cleveland office. Minutemen OhioComp is a Managed Care Origination (MCO) that medically manages injured workers' claims. Work schedule is Monday-Friday, dayshift, no weekends/ holidays. Medical benefits offered the following month of hire. We encourage recent graduates to apply.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITLIES:
1. Serve as a resource and liaison to the billing and nursing departments regarding coding questions.
2. Contact providers and the BWC regarding coding questions and/or issues.
3. Address issues regarding CPT codes that are By Report (BR), Non-Covered (NC), Not Routinely Covered (NRC) and above fee schedule/maximum units.
4. Review bills that must be sent to utilization review and BWC Medical Policy to ensure that bills are properly coded for medical services provided as supported by medical documentation from the date of service.
5. The certified coder:
- a. Confirms the CPT code is appropriate for the diagnosis billed.
- b. Confirms the billed CPT and HCPCS codes are correct based on medical documentation. If not, identify the most appropriate code(s).
- c. Confirms that the billed modifiers are correct.
- d. Identifies the correct order for multiple surgical procedures billed.
- e. Confirms reimbursement is eligible for the POS billed (e.g., at an ASC).
6. Reviews C-9 treatment request includes a By Report (BR), Non-Covered (NC),
Not Routinely Covered (NRC) the certified coder will assist the utilization management and case management departments and:
- a. Confirms that the CPT and HCPCS codes requested are correct based on
- medical documentation. If not, identify the most appropriate code(s).
- b. Confirms reimbursement is eligible for the POS requested (e.g., at an ASC).
QUALIFICATIONS:
Possesses the following qualifications:
1. Must hold one of the following credentials: CCS-P, CCS, CPC, COC-H, CPC-P, CPC-A
2. Good computer skills.
3. Strong organizational skills.
4. Good communication skills, both verbal and written.
5. Ability to work in a team environment.
