What are the responsibilities and job description for the Speech & Language Pathologist (MIPP) position at MIPP - Rockwell?
RESPONSIBLE TO: Director and/or Supervisor of Preschool and Assessment Center Services
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Master’s degree in communication disorders or speech/language pathology from an accredited college or university.
- Valid Michigan Teaching Certificate with an endorsement in speech preferred.
- ASHA certification and licensure in Michigan.
- Documented evidence of successful clinical experience in communication disorders and language development with children birth to age three.
- Demonstrated ability to work effectively and cooperatively with people and agencies associated with special education.
- Experience in diagnostics and intervention with children birth to age three.
- Experience in working effectively and cooperatively with parents of children birth to age three.
- Must pass criminal background check as required by School Safety Legislation.
DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS:
- Course work in the area of cognitive impairment, hearing impairment, autistic and/or related areas of special education.
- Knowledge of normal early childhood growth and development.
- Ability to work effectively with professionals, agency and school personnel.
- Evidence of performing oral-motor/feeding evaluations and intervention.
- Experience in the evaluation and interventions of physically, cognitively and autistic impaired children.
- Knowledge of non-verbal communication and sign language.
RESPONSIBILITIES SHALL INCLUDE BUT NOT BE LIMITED TO:
- Organize language development program for children birth to age three in the MIPP Program.
- Instruct children 15 months to three years old, individually and in groups as appropriate.
- Perform speech and language diagnostic testing on children 15 months to three years old.
- Write speech/language prescriptive reports activity programs for parents for home program use for children 15 months to three years old.
- Communicate, educate and work with parents and other agencies in the remediation of speech and/or language problems with children 15 months to three years old.
- Work as a cooperative member of an intervention team with other PACS personnel in the delivery of services to children birth to age three and their parents.
- Keep proper reports, attendance records and quarterly reports, and progress monitoring as required.
- Participate in evaluations and staffing, as well we write reports in the computer.
- Ability to perform oral-motor/feeding evaluations and training as a team member.
- Maintain your level of certification with ASHA and licensure with the State of Michigan.
- Provide support and counsel to parents of speech and language impaired children birth to age three.
- Perform other assignments as assigned by the Director and/or Supervisor.
WORK YEAR: 186 days throughout the calendar year
LOCATION: MIPP; location to be determined
SALARY: Direct Service and Degree Specialist salary schedule of the MIFT Master Agreement.
