We are seeking an experienced Technical Writer who has a proven track record of successfully implementing and maintaining records management systems, delivering presentations and communicating clear ideas to multiple levels of understanding, and adapting to new challenges and expectations.
Position Summary:
As a Technical Writer, you will play a critical role in ensuring clear and effective communication within the organization. Your expertise in technical writing will contribute to the development of accurate, well-structured, and user-friendly documentation. From editing and proofreading to producing technical guides, your work will enhance understanding and support informed decision-making.
Responsibilities may include:
- Maintain a working knowledge of the Manual for Written Material (DoD 5110.4-M).
- Review and edit documents for clarity, consistency, correctness, and adherence to DoD 5110.4-M standards.
- Produce technical guides and whitepapers that explain complex concepts, technologies, or processes in a comprehensible manner.
- Translate intricate information into accessible content for diverse audiences.
- Prepare and review read ahead materials for meetings and events.
- Draft and review briefings, reports, and meeting notes.
- Ensure agendas and related materials are accurate and well-organized.
- Create training materials for government employees, contractors, and stakeholders.
- Ensure that training content aligns with relevant policies, procedures, and systems.
- Incorporate visuals (diagrams, charts, screenshots) to enhance the understanding of technical content.
- Balance text with visual elements for optimal comprehension.
- Draft, update, and review documentation for congressional reports and briefings.
- Maintain accuracy and compliance with legislative requirements.
- Manage and organize documentation within content management systems.
- Ensure accessibility, version control, and efficient retrieval of information.
- Conduct thorough quality assurance checks to identify and rectify errors or inconsistencies in documentation.
- Maintain high standards of accuracy and clarity.
- Work closely with the DAU Public Affairs team to align external communications with organizational strategies.
- Collaborate on messaging, branding, and consistency.
- Understand and effectively utilize the Correspondence and Task Management System.
- Ensure timely and accurate handling of correspondence and tasks.
Qualifications
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field such as journalism, technical communication, or similar
- Three to six (3-6) years’ experience writing complete, complex technical documents, including organizing the document and working with internal and external personnel (e.g., agencies, customer) is required
- Experience writing technical documents for education institutions is preferred
- Proven experience in technical writing, editing, and content creation.
- Familiarity with government or defense-related documentation is advantageous.
- Strong attention to detail, organizational skills, and ability to meet deadlines.

Salary : $50,000 - $68,000
