JOB SUMMARY
Help members achieve their fitness goals by providing customized fitness programs including education and guidance on proper nutrition, cardiovascular exercise and resistance training.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
- Conducts service appointments with members, including body fat analysis, nutritional counseling, proper use of fitness equipment, and correct exercise form.
- Teaches scheduled classes that start and end on time, incorporating proper warm-up, exercise, stretching, and cool-down techniques.
- Motivates and trains members in both one-on-one and group settings, collaborating with other trainers to create an engaging group training environment.
- Instructs class participants on effective workout methods, proper techniques, exercise demonstrations, muscle group identification, and targeted strength training.
- Guides members through initial and progressive training sessions focused on flexibility, aerobic conditioning, and strength training.
- Monitors and instructs members during private and group training sessions, ensuring the safe and effective use of equipment.
- Advises members on injury prevention and recovery strategies related to exercise.
- Tracks, monitors, and reports each member’s progress while maintaining a continuous personal training regimen.
- Provides guidance on achieving fitness goals and develops individualized exercise programs tailored to members’ needs.
- Prepares necessary equipment, music, and handouts for each class.
- Assists class participants, answers questions, and fosters a positive workout experience.
- Keeps management informed of customer needs and facility requirements.
- Ensures compliance with safety standards, department policies, and facility regulations.
- Monitors the fitness center, assists members with proper techniques, and provides health and fitness information.
- Maintains cleanliness of the fitness center and its equipment.
- Supports the Director of Fitness in developing and enhancing department services.
- Attends training sessions and staff meetings, conducts research on assigned projects, and provides continuing education to staff.
- Monitors class attendance and handles billing for attendees.
- Performs additional tasks as assigned by the Director of Fitness.
JOB QUALIFICATIONS
- High School Diploma or equivalent.
- Appropriate certifications for fitness instruction.
- Experience teaching group and one-on-one classes
- AED/First Aid/CPR certification.
- Reformer experience preferred.
- One year of experience as a personal trainer or as a Group Exercise Instructor at a neighborhood gym, physical fitness franchise operation or private club preferred.
- Ability to design and implement safe and effective classes appropriate to the group.
- Working knowledge of human anatomy, kinesiology and training principles.
- Knowledge of group fitness teaching strategies and the incorporation of music, tempo, cueing technique and rhythm.
- Excellent verbal and visual cueing skills.
LICENSE & SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS
- Current CPR and AED certification
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
- Must be able to stand; walk; bend; and use hands to finger, handle or feel.
- Must be able to reach with hands and arms; talk and hear.
- Must be able to occasionally lift and/or move up to 30 pounds.
- Must be able to work in a busy, noisy environment.
- Must be able to meet and perform the physical requirements and to work effectively in an environment, which is typical of this position.
- Must be able to frequently lift, bend, climb, stoop and pull.
- Must be able to continuously stand, sit and walk.
- Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.
