What are the responsibilities and job description for the Human Rights Officer position at MiraVista?
As the Human Rights Officer (HRO) for MiraVista in Holyoke, Massachusetts, is primarily responsible for advocating for the respect and protection of human rights of patients within the hospital. The Human Rights Officer is also responsible for meeting with each patient who requests 3-day notice to leave the facility. The HRO will monitor and report human rights violations, working closely with Social work and Quality and Risk. The successful candidate will be primarily responsible for promoting and protecting human rights in line with state standards. The HRO will be responsible for preparing reports and metrics on the HRO complaints as well as the 3-day notices each month.
As the Human Rights Officer (HRO) your responsibilities will include:
- Promoting awareness of human rights issues within the hospital
- Investigating reports of human rights violations
- Preparing detailed reports on human rights violations and progress towards human rights goals
- Organizing and participating in events, conferences, and training sessions to further educate
- Monitoring legislation, court decisions, and policy developments related to human rights
- Conduct thorough research and analysis of human rights-related issues.
- Prepare reports, briefings, and presentations on human rights issues.
- Advise and support the development of policies and programs that enhance respect for human rights.
- Organize and conduct educational and awareness-raising activities.
- Represent the hospital as the HRO in meetings and seminars.
The Human Rights Officer (HRO) will have:
- Prior experience in a similar role or in human rights advocacy.
- Strong understanding of human rights laws and principles.
- Excellent research, analytical and report writing skills.
- Exceptional communication and negotiation skills.
- Able to work well under pressure and handle sensitive issues diplomatically.
- A bachelor’s degree in law, political science, social sciences, or a related field is required.
