Role Description
The firm, which is located in Great Neck, New York is looking for a full-time Staff Attorney to join our team and is ready to hit the ground running.
The Staff Attorney will represent collectively bargained workers in a wide range of civil legal matters and proceedings in administrative agencies, city, state and federal courts, including but not limited to : matrimonial (uncontested and contested), family court (custody and visitation), landlord tenant (non-payment and holdover), legal defense (consumer credit, breach of contract, foreclosure, etc.) and personal bankruptcy.
The ideal candidate will have at least 3 years of experience in handling litigation in any of these areas of practice. A background working as an attorney for Legal Aid, an Article 18B assigned counsel or in a similar role with a high volume of cases is a plus.
The essential duties of the Staff Attorney will include :
- Provide full representation and handling of litigation for a caseload of collectively bargained workers in courts and administrative agencies located in New York City, Suffolk, Nassau, Westchester, Putnam and Dutchess Counties
- Extensive communications with clients, negotiations with opposing counsel, drafting and filing pleadings and motions, discovery and depositions
- Conduct client intake meetings at union offices located throughout New York City and the surrounding counties
- Other duties as assigned
