POSITIONS SUPERVISED: None
TRAVEL REQUIRED: 60-70%, primarily driving within Iowa and Wisconsin
WORK SCHEDULE: Day Shift, with numerous night meetings
SALARY RANGE: $75K - $100K (based on experience)
POSITION SUMMARY
The Business Development Specialist-Education IA (BD Specialist-Education) will assist the Educational Specialists and Vice President of Education in pursuing and obtaining educational construction projects and create and manage communication strategies to support educational projects. This will include K-12 schools, both public and private, with occasional work in the higher education market. This position’s primary focus will be in Iowa with additional travel throughout Wisconsin.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
- Contact and establish positive business relationships with
- PreK-12 school district and university administrators
- School superintendents, business officials, facilities directors, and board members
- Architects, financial advisors, and other key partners
- Assist the education team in proposal development, interview preparation, and presentations.
- Understand construction delivery methods and educate clients on the Construction Manager at Risk (CmaR) process.
- Develop and manage communication strategies, schedules, and timelines throughout the planning and implementation phases of construction projects.
- Participate in and lead community conversations to gather feedback and build consensus for potential referendum approval.
- Work with the education team, graphic designers, and other partners to develop project branding, key messages and content for various marketing deliverables.
- Collaborate with the education team on projects to develop tools, processes, and best practices that create efficiencies.
- Plan and/or participate in student engagement activities to promote careers in the construction trades.
- Conduct research related to projects, best practices, geographic areas, and project opportunities.
- Attend education trade shows, conferences, and special events.
- Perform other related duties as assigned.
POSITION QUALIFICATIONS
- Bachelor’s Degree in Business, preferably with a Marketing emphasis or consideration would also be given to someone with at least three years of construction experience.
- Ability to work out of the Cedar Rapids, IA office location.
- Strong public speaking/presentation skills.
- Ability to think strategically about how to pursue business opportunities.
- Well organized, energetic, creative, and dedicated.
- Ability to communicate with tact and diplomacy, both orally and in writing, using proper spelling, grammar, and punctuation.
- Demonstrated ability to multi-task and work efficiently in a fast-paced environment.
- Positive, can-do attitude.
- Demonstrated proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite and the ability to learn and use new technology and software.
- Must obtain LEED Green Associate accreditation within one year of hire.
WORK ENVIRONMENT
Primarily an office environment, with frequent travels (typically via car) throughout the State of Iowa and occasionally Wisconsin.
