What are the responsibilities and job description for the Infant and Early Childhood Mental Health Consultant position at MiSide (Formerly Development Centers)?
POSITION DESCRIPTION:
This is a full-time professional position providing specialized consultation and training that helps early childhood professionals build the capacity to support children’s social and emotional needs. The person in this position functions with a great deal of professional independence under the general guidance and supervision of the Lead Infant and Early Childhood Mental Health Consultant.
RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES:
- Provide collaborative, relationship-based mental health consultation to home care providers, center/school-based teachers, and directors to promote equitable learning environments and overall well-being
- Demonstrate the ability to work in diverse early childhood programs and settings
- Observe and provide classroom/program assessment and feedback
- Provide child and family centered consultation when caregivers or parents/guardians have concerns regarding specific children
- Develop strength-based goals with teachers and families
- Provide modeling, resources, and referrals as needed
- Conduct community outreach to heighten the awareness of children’s mental health needs
- Maintain a caseload, assist in program implementation and reporting as required by funding source
- Provide training and workshops for early childhood professionals and parents
- Engage in reflective supervision with supervisor and peers
- Establish and maintain relationships with those in the community serving infants, toddlers, and young children
KNOWLEDGE & SKILLS:
- Understands the impact of trauma on infant/young child and family development and can educate others about trauma-informed approaches
- Understands how implicit bias can influence the care of infants and young children, and works to ensure that caregivers understand the potential consequences of their attitudes and behaviors
- Knowledge of infant, toddler, and preschool development and age-appropriate behavioral expectations
- Knowledge of child-care systems
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
- Master’s degree in social work, psychology, or a related field with appropriate State of MI licensure
- MI-AIMH endorsement of Infant Family Specialist (IFS)(Level II) within 1 year of hire. Infant Mental Health Specialist (IMHS)(Level III) is preferred
- Valid MI license and ability to meet agency’s insurance company’s standards of coverage
- MiRegistry approved trainer within 1 year of hire
SALARY: Commensurate with Experience
