What are the responsibilities and job description for the Principal Analyst Market Evaluation position at MISO Default Brand?
Starting Salary Range: $121,000 - $140,000 - position is also eligible for an annual bonus if individual performance and company objectives are met.
As a Principal Analyst on MISO’s Market Evaluation Team your work will directly contribute to ensuring the reliable and efficient operation of the power grid that serves 45 million people. By analyzing and enhancing market and system operations you’ll help MISO manage congestion through its market systems and ensure sufficient resources are online and available to meet system demands and support grid reliability.
The Market Evaluation Principal Analyst will perform analysis and economic studies on the performance, efficiency, behaviors, and impact of the MISO markets. They will evaluate and report on market outcomes and operational events and identify issues with MISO’s markets and systems. They will use advanced data technologies to solve business problems and they will communicate analysis results and recommendations to internal and external stakeholders to support business decision making. As a Principal Analyst you will be expected to help guide other members of the team and you will be responsible for delivering progress on key projects that expand the team’s analytical capabilities.
In one year, you will know you’re successful if you:
- Can create and refine metrics and visualizations that when paired with narrative tell a clear story to communicate key takeaways
- Automate routine reporting processes
- Successfully collaborate with SMEs across the organization to frame issues and brainstorm solutions
- Lead projects and fulfill routine customer requests
Skills and experience needed for our Market Evaluation Principal Analyst:
- Bachelor’s degree in Data Science, Economics, Operations Research, or other related field required
- 8 years of relevant experience
- Specific experience with data analysis tools and programming languages (e.g. R, Eviews, SAS, Python, VBA, PowerBI, Azure)
- Experience creating metrics, visualizations and reports and then automating them and setting alerts
- Experience in energy market forecasting and analysis, power system analysis and operation and associated software development, data science, statistical and econometrics analysis and standard market design (preferred)
- Previous deregulated wholesale electricity market or utility experience (preferred)
- Previous energy industry experience with a Regional Transmission Organization (RTO) or market participant (preferred)
Appropriate level will be determined based upon experience and knowledge.
