As MISO’s Principal Engineer Research and Development, you will:
- Apply power engineering or operations research techniques to analyze complex data, evaluate multiple solutions, and recommend actions.
- Develop and maintain computer modeling tools, execute simulations, and analyze results to support decision-making.
- Gather, preprocess, and examine energy market or infrastructure data from multiple sources to drive accurate analysis and reporting.
- Utilize advanced optimization, power engineering, control theory, and analytical techniques to develop algorithms and innovative solutions.
- Clearly document findings through reports, charts, and presentations to communicate insights effectively.
- Collaborate with MISO business teams, university researchers, and national lab partners to develop innovative solutions using simulations and analysis.
- Recommend strategies and create roadmaps for market and operations implementation.
- Work with market and operations design teams to refine and advance recommended solutions for further development and production, delivering strategic value to MISO processes and benefiting MISO members.
To be successful as our Principal Engineer Research and Development you should have:
- At least 8 years of relevant work experience, with Bachelor’s degree in: electrical engineering, computer engineering, electrical engineering technology, electrical and computer engineering, electrical and electronic engineering, or electronics and computer engineering technology (or a related degree and an additional 2 years of internal experience).
- Master’s or PhD degree (preferred)
- Specific experience within any of the following: system operations, market analysis, or system planning and development in the energy industry (required)
- Previous design and development of software systems for Power Markets experience (preferred)
- Technical proficiency with most of the following capabilities:
- Principles, practices, and administration of Electricity Markets
- Optimization algorithms
- Quantitative analysis
- Power system modeling and simulations
- Project management theory and practice
- Software design and development techniques
- Energy Markets Tariff and industry regulations
- Understanding of NERC, FERC Regulatory Compliance Requirements
- Mathematical models of engineering and economic processes
- Understanding of CIP and SSAE 16 Regulatory Compliance Requirements
- Principles and economics of transmission/generation construction and system operations
Appropriate level will be determined based upon experience and knowledge.
