Position Summary : Animal & Daycare Specialist
Miss Emily’s Bed & Biscuit (MEBB) is a 27 year old multi award winning Pet Boarding, Daycare, and Groom Facility. The Animal & Daycare Specialist is responsible to ensure a high quality of care for all dogs and cats staying overnight and/or attending for Daycare at our facility. It is a demanding, but highly rewarding fun job! We work hard as a close knit team, and have fun along the way! Please read carefully over requirements *Important: We are only looking for people who can be relied upon, as we work with animals. Punctuality and attendance on shifts are a necessity! Previous animal experience is also a MUST.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
The essential functions include, but are not limited to the following:
- Ensure a high quality of care of all dogs and cats staying overnight and/or attending daycare.
- Facilitate dog playgroups 5-7 times per day, per group to ensure proper potty break time, exercise, and social interaction with the other dogs.
- Facilitate cat play time to give them time outside of their cat condos to get daily exercise and human interaction.
- Handle animals as required and restrain hard to control animals.
- Observe and examine animals for unusual symptoms or behaviors to determine if they need attention (i.e. physical condition, obvious signs of illness, or discontent) that may include communication with owner or veterinary services.
- Administer and document medicine to insure animals that require medical attention are following their treatment routine.
- Communicate animal updates including behavior, dietary, physical, and overall well-being of the animals with Facility Director and team members.
- Feed animals based on the instructions provided by owners.
- Keep the facility clean and maintained including the Lobby area, dog suites and cat condos (kennels), play and exercise areas and kennel complex. Cleaning is a BIG part of this role!
- Disinfect all areas of the facility as is necessary.
- Review the schedule for the day to anticipate animal arrivals and work with team members to efficiently plan tasks around the day’s schedule.
- Provide customer service, resolve problems, and answer questions to customers.
- Make sure opening closing duties are completed in a manner that aligns with company standards.
- Performing other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications (Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities)
- Must have previous Animal Care or Kennel experience.
- Must be at least 18 years old to be considered.
- Must have reliable transportation!!! Again, this is a MUST
- Reliable worker, as animals and other team member are dependent upon us.
- Ability to define problems and resolve them quickly.
- Strong communication skills.
- Ability to work well with ever changing priorities and or situations.
- Must be a self-starter who can work well with people at all levels both in and out of the kennel facility.
- Must be able to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to pet owners, and employees.
- Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form.
- Familiarity with dog training and behavior, animal health and pet disability awareness and sensitivity.
Physical Demands and Work Environment
The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this position. The employee frequently is required to use hands or finger, handle, or feel objects, tools or controls. The employee is occasionally required to stand; walk; sit; reach with hands and arms; climb or balance; and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 55 pounds and restrain dogs weighing up to 100lbs. Specific vision abilities required by this position include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, and the ability to adjust focus. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate to high. Also, this is Florida so working in hot temperatures during outdoor playtimes must be something employees can handle.
