PRIMARY PURPOSE :
Provide services which will meet the needs of children assigned to the program. Develop or modify curricula and prepare lessons and other instructional materials to match student ability levels. Work in self-contained, team, departmental, or itinerant capacity as assigned.

Education / Certification :
- Bachelor's degree or higher
- Valid Texas teacher's certificate with required Special Education endorsement for assignment

Instructional Strategies
Develops and implements lesson plans that fulfill the requirements of district's curriculum program and show written evidence of preparation as required.Presents subject matter according to guidelines established by Texas Education Agency, board policies, and administrative regulations.Plans and uses appropriate instructional and learning strategies, activities, materials, and equipment that reflect understanding of the learning styles and needs of students assigned.Plans and supervises assignments of teacher aide(s) and volunteer(s).Uses technology to strengthen the teaching / learning process.Works cooperatively with general education teachers to modify curricula as needed for students with disabilities according to guidelines established in Individual Education Plan (IEP).Cooperates with other members of the staff in planning and implementing instructional goals, objectives, and methods according to district requirements.Prepares for and conducts ARD committee meetings, and serves as a resource person to students, parents and teachers on the assigned campus.Ensures implementation of the educational plan (IEP) for each child within assigned caseload.Structures daily schedule to maximize academic learning time and materials preparation.Evaluates the educational plan of each student at the end of every six weeks, track and monitor progress, and provide IEP progress reports to parents.Student Growth and Development
Helps students analyze and improve study methods and habits.Document student present levels of academic achievement and functional performance and collect data to measure and project academic and behavioral growth.Assumes responsibility for extracurricular activities as assigned. Sponsors outside activities approved by the campus principal.Be a positive role model for students, support mission of school district.Classroom Management and Organization
Manages student behavior in the classroom and administers discipline according to board polices, administrative regulations, student code of conduct, and IEP.Works collaboratively with the classroom teacher to create a classroom environment conducive to learning and appropriate for the physical, social, and emotional development of students. Takes all necessary and reasonable precautions to protect students, equipment, materials, and facilities.Assists in selection of books, equipment, and other instructional materials.Maintains required documentation, records and reports, including preparing ARD paperwork and holding the ARD committee meeting within required timelines.Works collaboratively with the classroom teacher to structure the classroom to assist in behavior control and to create an atmosphere for efficient learning.Be responsible for assistive technology devices, equipment and supplies.Communication
Establishes and maintains open communication by conducting conferences with parents, students, principals, and teachers.Maintains a professional relationship with colleagues, students, parents and community members.Uses effective communication skills to present information accurately and clearly.Accepts and fulfills the duties assigned by the building principal and the Director for Special Education.Works collaboratively with the classroom teacher to suggest specialized instructional strategies to be implemented in the regular classroom.Professional Growth and Development

FOR INSTRUCTION OUTSIDE A TYPICAL CLASSROOM SETTING (e.g. P.E. Teachers, Fine Arts Instructors, Shop Instructors, etc.) the following physical requirements must be addressed :
