Cable Technician - Joint Base McGuire

MCS is hiring for a Cable Technician at McGuire Air Force Base, New Jersey. This is a full-time, permanent position with benefits.

The Cable Technician must demonstrate the ability to splice and terminate fiber optic cable. The Cable Technician will require good communication skills and the ability to work well in a team setting. It is important that candidates keep abreast of industry trends and developments, as well as applicable Government regulations.

Typical duties include:

• Installing, removing, maintaining, modifying, troubleshooting, and repairing voice and/or non-voice communications systems including intercom and public address systems, alarm systems, teletype equipment, and electronic and electromechanical telephone key systems/PBAXs; terminal and communications equipment, including line drivers.
• Running cables, key cables, or house wire to all telephone sets, terminal connectors, lugs, pins, or screws, associated with key telephone equipment and/or terminating equipment for non-voice circuits.
• Installing Cat5e and Cat6 cable for LAN and phone requirements and troubleshooting analog, digital, and VoIP phone issues.
• Opening and closing work orders, tracking work orders.

Required:

Educational Requirements:High School diploma or equivalent

Certification Requirements: BICSI certification is desired.

Experience Requirements:

• Ability to pass a National Background Check
• Ability to access DoD facility, with a valid driver’s license.
• Fiber splicing experience.
• 3 years’ experience installing and troubleshooting Cat6 cable, circuits, analog/digital phones, VoIP phones.
• Ability to work standard hours with flexibility and support on-call duties.
• Basic understanding of Excel, Word, and Outlook.

Desired:

• Knowledge of underground cable infrastructure for copper and fiber.
• Fiber certification and experience.
• Confined space certification.

This position is expected to pay $29.00 to $33.00 hourly; depending on experience, education, and any certifications that are directly related to the position.
