Program & Position Summary:
Mission Dolores Academy (MDA) is seeking a dedicated and skilled Middle School Math Teacher & Math Coach to provide high-quality mathematics instruction to students in grades 6-8 while also supporting the professional development of fellow teachers in math instruction across grade levels. This individual will be responsible for ensuring rigorous, standards-aligned math instruction, fostering a love for mathematics, and tracking student progress to drive achievement. The ideal candidate is committed to data-driven instruction, differentiation, and collaboration to support student success, particularly in preparation for high school entrance exams.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities:
Middle School Math Teacher Responsibilities:
Plan and implement engaging, rigorous math lessons using the school's chosen curriculum and intervention programs.
Establish and maintain strong classroom management practices and routines to foster a structured and supportive learning environment.
Use formative and summative assessments to track student progress and inform instruction.
Provide differentiated instruction to meet the diverse needs of learners, ensuring all students receive appropriate support and challenge.
Support 7th and 8th-grade students in preparing for the High School Placement Test (HSPT) by integrating practice questions, test-taking strategies, and targeted skill development into lessons.
Utilize data to identify areas of growth and adjust instruction accordingly to ensure student success.
Communicate regularly with students, parents, and colleagues about academic progress and areas for improvement.
Incorporate technology and hands-on learning experiences to enhance student engagement and conceptual understanding.
Collaborate with the middle school team to align curriculum, instruction, and assessments.
Math Coach Responsibilities:
Support K-8 teachers in implementing best practices in math instruction and integrating the school's curriculum effectively.
Lead professional development sessions and workshops focused on math pedagogy, differentiation strategies, and data-driven instruction.
Assist teachers in analyzing student performance data to inform instructional decisions and improve outcomes school-wide.
Model high-quality math instruction through demonstration lessons and coaching cycles.
Develop and share resources, lesson plans, and instructional strategies to support teachers in delivering effective math instruction.
Facilitate math intervention strategies and programs to support students needing additional academic assistance.
Present school-wide math achievement data to faculty and leadership, identifying trends, strengths, and areas for improvement.
Provide guidance on developing and implementing enrichment opportunities for students excelling in math.
Qualifications:
Education & Experience:
Bachelor’s Degree required (preferably in Mathematics, Education, or a related field).
Minimum of 2 years of teaching experience in middle school mathematics.
Experience in coaching or leading professional development for teachers preferred.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
Strong understanding of middle school math content and pedagogy.
Excellent classroom management and the ability to establish routines that maximize student learning.
Ability to analyze data and use it to drive instruction and support teachers in data-informed decision-making.
Strong communication and collaboration skills to support both students and fellow educators.
Ability to develop relationships with students, parents, and staff in a diverse school community.
Familiarity with the High School Placement Test (HSPT) and strategies to prepare students effectively.
Experience with educational technology and online math resources.
