Position: Software Engineering Intern
Location: Huntsville, Alabama
Duration: Summer 2025
Hours: Full-time, 20-40 hours per week (40 hours preferred)
Compensation: $15-$20 per hour
Job Description:
Mission Driven Research (MDR) is looking for a talented and motivated college student interested in working as an intern to join us for a hands-on summer internship. As an intern, you will contribute to cutting-edge projects, including tethered uncrewed autonomous systems (UAS), autonomous search and rescue, vertical take-off and landing (VTOL) aircraft autopilot design, and more. This is a unique opportunity to apply your software engineering skills to solve real-world challenges in an innovative and fast-paced environment.
Roles and Responsibilities:
- Contribute to the development and testing of software solutions for UAS projects.
- Collaborate with our engineering team to support autonomous systems, including autopilot integration, control systems, and machine learning/artificial intelligence (ML/AI) applications.
- Participate in designing and implementing software for simulation, data analysis, and autonomous navigation.
- Demonstrate strong coding skills and work across multiple programming languages and IDEs as needed.
- Engage in hands-on prototyping, debugging, and testing of systems.
- Make technical presentations to the MDR team, sharing progress and insights.
Qualifications and Preferred Skills:
- Current enrollment in a Computer Science, Software Engineering, or related degree program, with at least two years of coursework completed.
- Strong coding background, with experience in Python and proficiency in multiple programming languages.
- Experience or interest in UAS, autopilot software, or ML/AI technologies.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a dynamic, team-oriented environment.
- Demonstrated problem-solving skills and a passion for tackling complex challenges.

Internship selections will be made around March 17th.
Applicants must be available to work in-person in Huntsville for the duration of the internship.
